Almond meal/flour

I really like using almond meal to make our paleo muffins and cookies. I can get almond meal at Trader Joe's for $3.99/pound. Does anyone know someplace else that I can get it cheaper? Online maybe? What flour alternative do you all use?

    I was hoping that I could get some cheaper after seeing the price at Kroger a couple days ago -- $10.49 for a pound! Trader Joe's sounds MUCH better.

    I'm in the same boat with everyone else... I haven't been able to find it for less than $10, maybe down to $7/lb on amazon. I'm hitting up Trader Joe's next time I'm near one!

    You could always just make your own - Its surprisingly easy.

    I typically buy a 3lb bag of raw almonds from BJs for about $11 and make my own almond flour and almond butter.

    I buy the blanched almond flour from Honeyville: http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/blanchedalmondflour5lb.aspx. I try not to do too much baking, but when I do it's my favorite. It's finer than anything else I've found and I like the texture of the finished product better with the blanched almonds. I usually wait to order until they have a sale (usually 10-15% off), so it generally works out to just under $6 a pound.

    Trader Joes almond meal is great...it is the whole meal with the almond skins. Its the pure almond flour that is expensive. I get it on amazon when I see a sale. Most recipes work with almond meal. When I bake a cake I use the almond flour. Carrot cake works awesome with TJ's almond meal...so good!

    I also buy my almond flour from Honeyville Farms. I have done the research and found they have the best price.

    The Trader Joe almond meal is the cheapest I have found. You probably aren't going to find it any cheaper.

    When I do bake I usually use half Almond/half Coconut flour (mainly cause I managed to score some Bob's Red Mill Coconut flour on clearance at a local Food Lion) - it lasts me quite awhile because I don't make a whole lot of paleo treats that call for flours...mainly just quiches...

    Maybe it's a sign to cut back on the baking.... :)

    Baking is a post-agricultural cooking method (there was nothing to bake until we started growing grains), and probably shouldn't be considered a part of a hunter/gatherer's cooking techniques.

    Hi, I am in the UK but I do bake a lot. Mainly I use almond flour, but also coconut and peanut flour is good. I can't help with prices being t'other side of the pond, but for me, the cost of the flour is outweighed by the knowing what I am eating is wholesome and nutritious. That said, I still shop around as I can get almond flour in one shop at least £1 cheaper per bag, and our bags are quite small, so I buy 5-6 at a time so the savings do mount up.

    I got mine pretty cheap at a natural grocers, I want to say it was no more than $3 a pound!

    I'm so glad I read this thread. I was just about to place an order to buy almond flour on Amazon for $9.69 for 1 lb. Now I know I can make my own or buy it at Trader Joe's. Yet another reason why I love that store!

    Is there any other suggestion out there? I am from Canada and there is no Trader's Joe stores around here. I pay $10/ lb right now, and it is bad for my food budget. Amazon.com also do not really ship here food items.
    Nuts.com just started to ship to Canada the $25 lb bag is only $117, but the shipping charges are crazy $46 on that order. It is still "only" $6.50 /lb including the shipping, but nowhere that cheap as the trader's joe price.
    If you see some cheap online price, please let me know!
