Meal Plans

Does anyone else on here meal plan?
I absolutely hate it,,, But I can't deny all the benefits
Being prepared, reduces the chance that I'll binge, save money on groceries, reduces waste....

I'm trying to build one now for next week. If you have any good recipes or example meal plans to contribute that would be sweet!

How can people NOT plan?! If you just log what you ATE, you're probably not going to hit nutrition goals...and who knows how many calories you're eating? Could be way over, could be way under! I usually plan/pre-log, so I can make smart choices. And I always try to have at least some idea of what my next few days look like...if I leave it to chance bad things happen!

My basic plan is pretty simple:

Breakfast is fruit with some or all of the following: grain, nuts, seeds, protein powder etc. or sprouted toast with nut/seed butters

Lunch is usually kale salad or veggies

Dinner is always a big green salad, maybe half an avocado, protein (tofu, beans, lentils, seitan etc) whole grains
    and veggies or a soup

Snacks are protein bars, smoothies, toast with almond/peanut butter, fruit, nuts.

Yup, resisted it, but I am now meal planning, and it works much better. The thing that burns me up, though, is planning according to what is in the weekly sale flyers, then getting to the store and finding out that they are out of everything in the flyer . . .

In the U.S.A. most stores I know of issue what they call a rain check. This means upon your next visit you are able to purchase said product at that sale price. ...still inconvenient, but doable. It may help to ask if your store honors this policy. :flowerforyou:

No, they won't do rain checks. And it doesn't work if I have planned this week's meals based on the foods that are on sale, getting those foods next week or the week after doesn't help. I'm still stuck at the grocery store thinking "I planned four meals based on _____________ because it was on sale. What am I going to replace those meals with now, and what ingredients do I need to pick up to do it?" I can only get out to the grocery store once a week, so if I don't get everything I need, I can't pop back in the next day.

I plan my meals, but sometimes I get lazy and don't end up making what I planned.

Few places do rainchecks anymore (usually they have some not that says *while supplies last). I usually only get stuff that I know I will use on sale (especially produce).
