Hey all,
Just wondering what everyone does for snack and breakfast ideas at work. The wknds are a breeze as ill cook something up, but I just dont have time in the mornings before work and prefer to snack on stuff during the day.
I seem to spend all my organisation skills on making great lunches my breakfast always seems a bit lacking and by lunch Im usually pretty hungry!
At the moment Im chewing on nuts and a yogurt which is upping my daily carbs by quite a bit and isnt overly filling.
I would love any suggestions of whats easy to have at work to keep hunger at bay until lunch and so I can get rid of the 9gs of carbs from the yogurt!
Thanks
Danni

I've been wrapping sticks of cheese in ham and dipping in mayo. :-)0
-
tuna with cream cheese or cottage cheese....in beaten egg then made into an omelet...im gonna try that tomorrow morning!!0
-
Hardboiled eggs, chunks of cheese, celery/cucumber sticks with dip. Nuts are kind of high in calories, have to be careful there.
For breakfast, I typically have 1 cup cucumber with 1 Tbsp dip, 1/4 cup berries, 3 scrambled eggs.
I used to carry around Atkins bars, but they're kind of expensive now. For a while, made some of my own low-carb bars from chocolate whey protein powder.0 -
So true about the atkins bars, I actually just got and it was nearly $5, ouch!
The cheese in mayo sounds amazing haha! I try and keep an eye on my cheese intake though or I get a bit carried away.
Thanks for the suggestions so far0 -
I make scrambled eggs after I get to work. I take 2 eggs (crack when I get to work), bacon bits, slice of cheese and it takes 1 1/2 minutes in microwave. I also make mock oatmeal at work (ricotta + egg + splenda + vanilla + cream), takes 1-2 minutes in microwave. I mix it up at home, cook when I get to work. Add butter, splash of cream, and sliced strawberries or peaches on top - really good!0

I have just started drinking Bulletproof coffee and it keeps me satisfied until lunch. I have eaten breakfast everyday for years, until the last two weeks.
Bulletproof coffee - My version anyway - Is my regular coffee (some people think you need special coffee) plus 1 TBS organic, grass feed butter and 1 TBS virgin Coconut Oil put in my Majic Bullet for a minute. Delicious and keeps me from being hungry until lunch time.0 -

Only had a quick glance but love the sound of Goats cheese truffles.
And being able to eat pork scratchings and not feel bad about it is one of my favourite positives of this way of eating. :-D0 -
For snacks I like hard boiled eggs, cheese sticks, pepperettes, veggies and helluva dip. I like flavoured almonds and low carb cheesecake too LOL I also make up those 'clouds' and freeze them in tiny bites to grab on the way by. I have made an almond bread that was low carb before too but when i put the numbers into MFP it was much higher in carbs than the original poster said :P
Kroger has a kroger brand low carb yogurt that is supposed to be very good.
I am going to try some egg 'muffins' that i found a few variations on... if i like the recipe i will post it. Its like a mini quiche. You make ahead and they are good in fridge for one week or they can be frozen and then defrosted in fridge overnight.
I find that if i have good b'fast, tak e afew minutes to scramble up some eggs and microwave bacon i precooked.. i am full til lunch easily if i have a coffee and lots of water in between. sausaage can be precooked sliced up and frozen and is easily defrosted/heated in a busy morning. I find that i do the best on my atkins plan if i have 3 solid meals and less snacks because the snacks seem to add up fast in carbs.0 -
I keep the boiled eggs and avacado and canned sardines and coconut oil.0

I have a 1/2 cup of Fat free Greek yogurt plain with add-ins (fruit, almonds, granola, etc). During the summer I was adding 1/2 c strawberries, 1 packet Splenda, and 1 tsp. chia seeds. Now that it's cooler, I'm adding cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, nuts, high fiber cereal, etc (not all at once!). You can also Google refigerator oats for another dense breakfast but the carbs can get a little high.
The egg muffins are incredibly easy. Just mix eggs (or Egg Beaters), peppers, spinach or broccoli, and ham or bacon, parmesan or mozzarella cheese, salt and pepper. Spray the tins with nonstick spay and fill about 3/4 full. Bake at 350 for about 20-30 minutes. I like mine a little brown on top. Let them cool then freeze or refrigerate. I put them in the freezer and pull out 2 the night before work to put in a microwave container. I heat them for about 30-45 seconds and done. At some point, I recall Laura mentioning using equal parts egg and cottage cheese and they bake nicely. I haven't tried that yet.
My everyday morning snack is quite boring but I love it. Celery with a laughing cow wedge. Sometimes if I don't have fruit for breakfast, I'll have the cheese with a pear instead.
All other suggestions here are good as well.0 -
Today i did hummus and cucumber salad with a few olives. Its unconventional for breakfast but it was great and the best breakfast Ive had all week, especially since Im only at the end of my 1st week of no carbs (traditional). Im loving everyone elses ideas too.0
-
make a thin one egg omelette and use it as a wrap - for whatever you would put in a carb wrap. I like tuna mayo and lettuce. Or BLT0
-
Fantastic ideas. I'm starting work next week so was about to ask the same thing about what to take0
-
Think I'll definitely have to give the omlette wrap idea a go too.0

Amazing suggestions from everyone, I've never thought about microwaving eggs at work! Can't wait for Monday now haha0

I just microwaved eggs at work, life changing stuff!
I would probably be shot if I microwaved something so "smelly" at work... I almost got flogged the time I reheated shrimp for lunch. LOL
:grumble:
I typically take things like hard boiled eggs, string cheese, chicken or tuna salad, veggies and some kid of dip, cut up cooked italian sausage, etc.0 -
Could you specify how much ricotta and how many eggs you use?0
-
To be honest, I dont snack in the morning anymore.
I have found that if I have at least 50g of protein, 30g of healthy carbohydrates, and about 35-45g of fat in the morning, I am satisfied for a good 4-5 hours.
Yesterday I made myself a homemade four-egg omelet with butter, mozzarella cheese and filled it with my homemade old-school chili (beef, tomato, onion, pepper, seasonings)... that kept me from 7am to almost 2:30pm.... To get me to last until I got home, I had a small slightly green banana with 1TB of peanut butter and it held me over from 2:30pm to 5:45pm
Try to balance your breakfast more... experiment with different foods... but really consider amping the protein in the morning!
good luck!0 -
Thanks for the suggestions guys, some great ideas on here0
