Net Carbs?

Sorry if this has been said and done before but I'm new to the low carb thing and this group. I'm afraid I'm getting confused about a few things, especially what net carbs are. I got an atkins bar just for a quick snack, I try to eat as clean as I can but this was all that was on hand at the time. What I don't understand is why it says 3g net carbs on the front but then the nutritional info says 18g of carbs. What am I missing? I've googled it over and over but I like to get real world answers from people who actually live by this to help me understand.
Also, how exactly do you all keep your carbs so low? I thought I was doing pretty good by striving to stay under 100g of carbs (I was previously a carb JUNKIE!) but I can't figure out how so many of you that I see keep your carbs as low as 20g! Bravo to you, please share your secrets!

So you take your Total carbs and subtract the Fiber and that should give you Net Carbs.... The Atkins bar is not counting Sugar Alcohols that may or may not affect you. I just posted a topic on sugar alcohols and from google I figured to 1. stay the hell away 2. they count.
Hope this is helpful0
