  • Lose the squishy shoe and he needs to get more depth. Not really sure how since I don't do Overhead Squats, but I believe it's a movement that is done to far below parallel.

awesome 1/4 squats. tell him to take off some weight and work on his range of motion

Any reason why he's doing over heads like that? It's sort of odd.

If he wanted more benefit from that, I'd start with the bar on the ground. Do a power clean to an overhead press. Catch the overhead in the squatted position and then finish up the up movement of the squat.

I've playe around with this and even with 95lbs, it was one odd sensation. Hard not to fall back/forward

Looks good. Is he planning on doing the other half of those squats tomorrow?

Tell hubby to get lower. A lot lower. Take the weight off the bar and just use the bar till he gets the depth correct, then work back up.

I'm pretty sure that's the lockout position for a Snatch. Though idk if it has much carry over (assuming he was doing proper depth).

Its a classic crossfit squat. Overhead, lacking in depth. Hubs should be doing back squats unless hubs is a OLY lifter

Agreeing with what has been said here.

He needs to work on hip mobility so he can squat lower.
Lower the weight until he can hit depth properly, with control.
Unless he's competing in crossfit or oly lifting, he should be doing back squats.

What everyone said. Even my gramma squat lower than this. Go back to basic and go down.

well....i guess you can call it a squat.

    1. put the bar on your back until you can do it right
    2. break parallel, he isn't even close.

But I do like him squatting in front of the mirrors, sticking it to all the bros that curl in our squat racks.

they're horrible. he shouldn't have the barbell over his head like that, and he's not going low enough to call it a squat. have him put it on his back and squat deep.

He needs to lighten the bar to go lower, possibly get better shoes. does he add front and back squats? overhead squats are good and all, but if his form is off he.needs to go back to the basics :)

    oh i watched hahaha.

just saying people were a little harsh.

he definitely needs to be back squatting to depth.

i agree that my form could be a little better. my back needs to be straighter coming up, but i get down low, and thats half the battle.

Yeah, I'm glad that I posted this for him instead of him posting this himself. I've been telling him for a year or more that he doesn't get deep enough. I don't know why he's doing them with an overhead hold, he must have been inspired by the lift discussion we had last week regarding cleans, clean and press, clean and jerk, and snatches (which I can't say with a straight face). He bought something for his iPad that you can pause a video and then measure the angle of things, and he realized how far off parallel he really is. He says that it's not an issue of hipflexor, but with the reconstruction surgery he's had on one of his knees he can't comfortably get down any further. I suppose he'll have to work on it. Thanks!

Flexibility problem? He should keep stretching. Hell I have problems getting all the way down too. I take a look at myself while squatting some lighter weights. Hamstring flexiblity needs imporovement?
