So, I've always had issues with Bronchitis and a few years ago my Dr diagnosed it as Asthma and put me on daily meds. When I started loosing weight, I noticed my breathing was improving and we slowy took away the meds. I had always therorized that my weight was a major factor in my breathing issues.

Well, Friday night, I noticed it was hard to breath. I haven't gained any weight back so I was shocked. I started thinking, when I started loosing, I was LCing. I've LCed for the most part this entire time. Friday night, I carbed up. The issues carried into Saturday. I had to use my rescue inhaler about every 4 to 6 hours Friday night into Saturday night. I got back on the wagon yesterday and I feel fine.

Do you think there is a possibility that my Asthma is triggered by bad carbs? I know it sounds weird but it's really how it seems. I wasthinking that it could also have to do with my blood sugars. When I eat carbs, I have to do diabetes meds but when I'm bad carb free, there like a no-diabetic would be. Maybe the high blood sugars are causing the breathing issues??? Just thinking out loud but what do you thing?

  • I do not know what LCing is, first of all. And the carbs thing...it is about staying away from simple carbs...just making sure we all are on the same page there. We need carbs...

I do know this diet has major effects on improving our health. I know Mary Ann had health issues prior to being on South Beach and now ...is one healthy little chick a dee.

I had knee issues...still do...(zero cartilage in both)...but was in pain ALL THE TIME prior to SB. Now, I mean, I can walk on the TM for 40 minutes...just have to ice after.

My blood pressure has never been high...but now it is kinda LOW. Check it the other day 96/63 ... still ok...but this diet does wonders for sugar, blood pressure, joint pain...and weight.

Just watch the kind of carbs you eat. It really is not about calories...it is about what we eat. I mean anyone can eat a 1200 calorie diet...made up of twinkies and oreos...and keep it under 1200...but that is crap and your body will not be nourished.

My calories are rarely ever under 1200...EVER. Anyway, hope something in there answers your question.

ETA: I would definitely talk to your doc, however...since you had not been taking meds for awhile and now this. Do let us know how u r doing. (((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))

hi there, because of the attack that you had I stongly reccomend you see you Dr and have a check up, it wont hurt. I wouldnt like you to go through that again how scary for you. I wouldnt be surprised if asthma is related to lifestyle choice, diet etc the illness is on so prevelant now but quite rare 20 years ago food for thought, stay away from anti inflamatorys and asprin they are shown to have adverse affects on an asthmatic, anyway honey take care of your self xx

Saw my Dr and he says we should explore the blood sugar relation to my asthma issues. He says that might be an underlying issue. Thanks for the replies everyone.

Could also be a food allergy issue. My youngest has severe allergies and asthma. Things like colds, seasonal allergies, cats and certain foods will cause an attack for him. Definitely worth looking into. Hope you figure it out soon :)
