So I am 3 weeks in and am down 6 pounds. More noteworthy is how great I am feeling. I have more energy than I have had in quite a while. Probably since I went sugar free 2 years ago for 4 months. My arthritis pain has dropped tremendously. And I am sleeping much better.
I wont say it has been super easy, The first couple of weeks I was really missing sugar and had a couple of slip ups, so I allowed myself to have one fruit per day, and an occasional Atkins bar, and that took care of my feeling deprived.
Weight loss kinda stalled in the second week, so I continued cutting my carbs down and increased my good fats and proteins, and was able to drop a few more calories without feeling hungry, and the scale moved again.
I have also worked up to 50-60 minutes on my stationary recumbent 6 days a week. I make myself get my ride in before noon and it makes the rest of the day much better.
So for now I am rocking along and am shooting for ONE-derland in the next 7 -8 weeks.
How is everyone else doing? Anyone still struggling with the carb cravings? Lack of energy?
What are some positive effects you are seeing now?

Hi, Debbie:) I am 7 weeks in on South Beach. I really don't have those carb cravings anymore, which I never really thought possible! I usually average 1-2 fruits and 2-3 whole grains per day, and am satisfied. It is amazing how much better I feel than I did before I started. I'm sure it is a combo of getting some exercise and eating good food.
The only time I really have any trouble (& it's not really bad) is on the weekends. That's when we would typically do a lot of eating out. Plus when everyone is home, I just want to snack more, for some reason....maybe it's because they are snacking;) I am proud to say that we have not been out to eat for the entire 7 weeks. My kids are complaining for lack of any fast food;) I told thm next weekend I will get them some! I am getting tired of having to cook every night...even Friday!
October 20 is mine and my husbands 28th anniversary. I would like to go out to dinner that night, but I am a little scared/hesitant. I would like to enjoy a treat, but I'm worried it would mess up my successful streak with no cravings. Then there's the Holiday season, stretching from Thanksgiving to New Years....not sure how I'm going to handle that one. Usually there is a lot of cooking, baking, and eating involved; and it's never healthy, but always yummy. I'm not sure i can get theough the season without indulging in some of my favorites. What do all of you plan to do?
Hope everyone has a great day!0 -
hi there beachers, Im on week 4 I think, hmm not sure, I did high protein low carb for 2 weeks before starting sbd (so 6 weeks). Now I have to say I love it, have heaps of energy, and love my food choices. I just went through my saved food searches on my diary and deleted all the old rubbish that I used to eat. It was a real shocker all the bread, and cakes Yuck! I thought I was being good because it was weightwatchers etc. And I said to myself no wonder your were getting porky and the wine too, way over the top.
Anyway, Im a happy bunny so pleased I did this and I have to say this group helped as the first two weeks were the hardest, and coming here was a release and a push that I needed so a big Thank you all xxx
I also read an interesting book from the library today called clean and lean, its basically the south beach diet, but it was interesting to read. I like the philosophy of when you see an apple in the fruit bowl it looks pretty similar to what it was when it was on a tree, but if you see a potato chip it looks nothing like a potato. So the moral is if it didnt fly, swim, walk or grow on this planet then dont eat it.
Enjoy the journey everyone xxxxx
Congrats Queenie, enjoy your night and if you slip up just start again the next day, slip ups ok but dont give up xxx0 -
Hi, gang !
I managed 17 days on Phase 1 (I've got an OUTRAGEOUS sweet tooth) ....... was trying to shoot for 3 weeks but my hubby made a fantastic roast chicken & mashed potato dinner ...... and he almost never makes dinner ....... need I say more ?
At least I only had one serving ..... not the endless servings as in the past ...... that MUCH I've learned over the last four years ....... and now I'm on Phase 2 ....... bought sweet potatoes, Ezekial bread, apples ......... need to shop for ground turkey & beans for a turkey chili dinner ...... can put it all together in the slowcooker & then go to the gym for cardio & weights.
Hope everyone's having fun on SB ....... if you're having troubles, do not give up ...... just eat healthy at the very next meal :drinker:
And thanks for sharing your stories ....... what you experience helps the next person ....... we ARE one big family
