Hi Everyone!
I have Hashimotos and have been in hyper mode since JUne! I was hypo the rest of the year and am probably going back into it here soon..but its not like I can tell!
I have tried the 1200 calorie thing, the 1600 calorie thing no weight loss!! I exercise 5 days a week.
So.... I am in the EM2WL group and I love it! The support is great I have been eating around 1,800 to 2000+ calories and doing strength training 4 of the 5 days i workout..I thought "well i cant LOSE weight so Ill lift heavy and hopefully burn fat and build muscle"..I HAVE been able to build lean muscle, Hashi's cant stop me from doing that!!! NO ...Im not looking like hulk , Im actually narrowing down and my body is firmer and less jiggly...I dont know if Ive lost because I dont use the "LIar" to determine my progress! I take lots of pics and measurements...and for those saying well If I ate 1800 cals Id gain! KIKI (the founder) suggests doing a metabolism reset for those of us who's bodies have been on a very low calorie diet for too long...they eat at TDEE for about 6 weeks (or more) then eat at a SLIGHT calorie deficit for slow but steady weight loss..she is awesome, supportive and helps all newbies to find whats right for them.....I mean come on guys...I havent lost weight for a year I cant let that get me down , I CAN change my body (and mind frame) by eating more to fuel my body for workouts and building sexy lean muscle!! Just wanted to share this with hypo and hypers who think they are stuck and losing hope.....I also take lots of vitamins...and I use coconut oil for constipation and to soft skin..You CAN get the body you want , but there IS more than one way to get it...Have an open mind...there is not just one path on the road for healthy living!

Hi Bridget, :flowerforyou:
Yes, I'm in that group also. I have increased my calories, mostly with adding virgin coconut oil to my diet, and that did help me lose the last 10 lbs. The "starvation-mode" is a very real experience in my life.
I used to eat "weigh-down" way, and lost all my wt., maintained it for 7 years, and then found that I was gaining wt. again... on calculating my calories, I discovered that I was gaining wt. on around 1000 calories @ day.
So, I joined a Body-builders wt. loss group that claimed it could increase your metabolism, got my metabolism back up to 14-1500 calories a day, plus lost the extra wt... which lasted till I hit menopause & came down with hypothryroidism... thus the same 40 lbs came back yet again.
Last September I purchased a SlimCoach, which got me "moving" & I went back on the above "rotation diet" & lost 30 lbs. of it... then discovered myfitnespal & also the thyroid issue.
After much research & much help from the wonderful people on this board, I have discovered how to feel good again & lose wt.
There are many helpful tips & healthful suggestions here on this board, that really do unlock the wt. loss battle that we have. Its great to have people who understand & have gone through the same issues that we have, who can point us in the right direction with "hope" for success!
I'm very happy for you, that you are finding success in EM2LW ! And very interested to hear what you're doing . We can all learn from each other, such a great tool, myfitnesspal & their message boards! :drinker:0 -
I am :-)
And I've managed to lose 25 lbs on it. I love it. This is the first time in my life where I feel that I can live with it until I die. I've tried eating 1200 cal plus exercise but always got mad because I didn't have enough to eat.0 -
Me too! I haven't done a purposeful cut or even a bulk yet (well, I did an accidental bulk after my thyroidectomy), but I follow the posts and group closely. I've always eaten over 2000 cals a day and have maintained a large weight loss so I love the whole philosophy behind the group.
And am about to return to heavy lifting in November!

I am in the group and have been raising my calories slowly...with Hashi's it's so hard. One day I can eat 1700 calories and not gain and then the next day do the same and gain 3 lbs. So I am trying to do it slowly.0

I tried it for a few weeks in June but when I didn't see results by July I quit (I know, I know, I'm an instant gratification girl and it messes things up sometimes!). But since MFP recommended intake wasn't really working and I was getting grumpy on 1300 calories for July - October, I am trying it again now and have committed to it until January 1st when I'll reassess the situation if necessary.
Question for those who do it and are successful - do you go by the online calculators precisely? Or do you adjust down a bit for being hypothyroid? I've read that those calculators aren't necessarily accurate for people with metabolic disorders like us. I'm setting my goal about 200 calories under what the calculators say (which is still a lot of food!!). I am taking Armour, and as of my last labs I was in the right range - new bloodwork will be done next month as it's been almost a year.
Any thoughts on this?0 -
I try to adjust down 20% from my TDEE but I don't know if that's enough to counteract my Hashimotos. I am real curious about this myself so I hope to hear some good responses.0

I had my RMR tested in a lab this past summer and it while slightly lower than normal for a woman of my age and body composition, I've found that the Scooby calculator is only off by about 100. So I adjust from there and for the last month or so I've had great success with eating as close to the 15% TDEE cut number as possible. So I"ve plugged that number into MFP and don't worry about exercise calories unless I've done something huge like a 20 mile bike ride. Then I know I can eat a bit more.
In full disclosure, I am also doing a Whole30 and have given up sugar, dairy, grains and beans for the last month too. I start reintroducing foods next week, so we'll see what happens then. I had my gland removed last summer and have been desperately trying to find my new "magic number" so I'm hoping this is it!!0 -
I should get myself tested for RMR/BMR.
Thanks for the replies!0
