The "crazy hot" and "poor hot" scales

It is kind of like the crazy hot scale some guys use. Some women use the poor hot scale. The hotter they are the less rich they have to be, the less attractive the more rich.
What do you think about these scales? Have you seen them in action?
The "crazy hot" scale: The hotter she is, the crazier she can be to snag a "good catch" and if she’s not hot she can’t get away with being crazy
The "poor hot" (or, rich ugly) scale: “The hotter they are the less rich they have to be, the less attractive the more rich.”

I think when it comes to initial relationships - yeah that absolutely rings true for everyone. However as far as longevity, the people that are actually compatible regardless of hot/crazy/rich are the ones that end up happy and together. Some rich dude can snag a crazy supermodel, but watch them crash and burn (isn't that what real housewives of *insert random place here* is all about?)0

I can understand this perspective. Personally though, I try my best to avoid big wallets. I feel as though its a pulsing sign that within 6 months, i'll be lonely and he'll be working late.
especially in the South where I lived, it was an insult to be hit on my a rich man.
Youre so stupid only a rich man would want you.
Baby if you dont grow a personality, no one will want you but a rich man.
Keep up that bad attitude and you'll be a trophy wife in no time.
Granted we are also taught from birth that if you fall in love with a poor man, you will always be happy and have love. But if you fall for a rich man, either yall will lose everything or he'll lose interest. cause rich men are always trying to upgrade to the new sleeker model. So leave them alone in their rich world and dont ever get mixed up in that place. Its nothing but heartbreak and lonely nights.0 -

Wow I have never heard those before. I have always heard "You need to land yourself a doctor, lawyer, etc" so you don't have to work.0 -

Odd, I've never heard that before. It's just as shallow and judgmental as the opposite, of course. Haters gonna hate!

I think I've heard both of these.
"Money doesn't buy happiness"
"love don't pay the rent"
Kind of a strange dichotomy. Where's the middle income folks? Maybe there's love there!0 -
The scales definitely exist. Barney Stinson knows what he's talking about (See the Crazy- Hot scale from How I Met Your Mother)! I know a lot of guys willing to put up with some crazy S*** for a hot girl!
As for the Poor-Hot Scale, I haven't seen it as much. I don't think like that, but I recognize many women are willing to sacrifice money for a hot guy or a less attractive guy with money so it seems to be true as well.
I had a friend in school who just wanted to be in love... she always said she'd happily live out her life in a trailer with a man she adored. That same friend married a VERY unattractive extremely wealthy man (like lives in a castle kind of wealth). The irony just makes me laugh, haha....0 -
It's very true. Scales are for just about everything though. Take working for example: it's basically how much crap your willing to put up with for how much money right? The crazy-hot is a tough one to judge, because often times you don't know about the crazy as quickly as you notice the hot lol0

Some reading for people who are interested:
"Perceptions of physical attractiveness contribute to generalized assumptions based on those attractions. Individuals assume that when someone is beautiful, they have many other positive attributes that make the attractive person more likeable. This is also called the beautiful is good effect. Across cultures, what is beautiful is assumed to be good; attractive people are assumed to be more extroverted, popular, and happy. This could lead to a self-fulfilling prophecy, as from a young age, attractive people receive more attention that helps them develop these characteristics. In one study, beautiful people were found to be generally happier than less beautiful or plain people, perhaps because these outgoing personality traits are linked to happiness, or perhaps because beauty led to increased economic benefits which partially explained the increased happiness. In another study testing first impressions in 56 female and 17 male participants at University of British Columbia, personality traits of physically attractive people were identified more positively and more accurately than those who were less physically attractive. It was explained that people pay closer attention to those they find physically beautiful or attractive, and thus perceiving attractive individuals with greater distinctive accuracy. The study believes this accuracy to be subjective to the eye of the beholder."
Source: "social effect" at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_attractiveness
Given this, for a start, I think beautiful people will generally be received more positively everywhere, and thus will be more successful at life on average. So ugly people are actually more susceptible to be poor than beautiful people. Also, money (often brought by success) will help one with their general appearance (clothes, hair, being well groomed in general). Which will further increase the divide.
But, if we are assuming a hot person with a disadvantage (i.e. poor, crazy). The idea here is that we will generally assume beautiful people have positive qualities, so I would imagine we are ready to put up with more and it would take us longer to realise that, in fact, this person is not as likeable as we initially thought.0 -
Oh, and before I forget, from the same article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_attractiveness):
"Body mass
Body Mass Index (BMI) is an important determinant to the perception of beauty. Even though the Western ideal is for a thin woman, some cultures prefer plumper women, which has been argued to support that attraction for a particular BMI merely is a cultural artifact. The attraction for a proportionate body also influences an appeal for erect posture. One cross-cultural survey comparing body-mass preferences among 300 of the most thoroughly studied cultures in the world showed that 81% of cultures preferred a female body size that in English would be described as "plump".
Availability of food influences which female body size is attractive which may have evolutionary reasons. Societies with food scarcities prefer larger female body size than societies having plenty of food. In Western society males who are hungry prefer a larger female body size than they do when not hungry.
In the United States, women overestimate men's preferences for thinness in a mate. In one study, American women were asked to choose what their ideal build was and what they thought the build most attractive to men was. Women chose slimmer than average figures for both choices. When American men were independently asked to choose the female build most attractive to them, the men chose figures of average build. This indicates that women may be misled as to how thin men prefer women to be. Some speculate that thinness as a beauty standard is one way in which women judge each other and that thinness is viewed as prestigious for within-gender evaluations of other women. A reporter surmised that thinness is prized among women as a "sign of independence, strength and achievement." Some implicated the fashion industry for the promulgation of the notion of thinness as attractive."0 -
I really think it is just the standards what people compromise on what they find in a good partner. These are their negotiables just like if you have a guy that is a little shorter then you prefer but treats you better then other guys you will let the scale slide to the other side.
You might not think you have scales but all your negotiables are on a scale.0 -

I actually discussed this point when we were talking about evolution. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and Western cultures tend to see beauty in a different way than someone in a third world country.0 -
Crazy Hot exists. The more attractive a woman is, the more leeway she has in terms of her attitude. Most guys will put up with a fair amount of nonsense to be with an 8+ who gives regular, quality sex.
Poor Hot I've never heard of until now. I am familiar with the idea that men who have more money have more options.0 -
I think we are all familiar with the crazy hot...I stopped subscribing to that a few years back though. For me it is a combination of Im 38 years old and dont have the time, patience, energy nor desire to put up with crazy. Combine that with the cliche, yet true statement...."no matter how hot she is, someone somewhere is tired of putting up with her/his ****" For me that basically means, yeah she is hot, but there are a whole host of other qualities that go into the pot so I no longer put up with crazy just because she is hot.
As for poor/hot, I dont know... Im neither poor nor hot so I havent fallen into these categories nor seen too many examples.0 -

Wow I have never heard those before. I have always heard "You need to land yourself a doctor, lawyer, etc" so you don't have to work.
yeah in small hard working towns - 'so you dont have to work' translates to - you're too lazy and inept to do anything worthwhile for us- so you should just marry someone who will fund your laziness" LMAO0 -

Money can't always buy love. Exhibit A: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/766167-65-000-dollars-in-matchmaking

I think poor hot is more for men. A woman will date an ugly dude as long as he is rich. If he weren't, there is no way in hell she would date him. Hence .. Kid Rock, Ozzy, etc.
Guys being more visual .. I don't think it means that rich factors into it so much.0 -

I grew up in the town that the Mayo Clinic is in. Marrying a Doctor was considered a status symbol kind of like the real housewives. If you married rich you were supposed to be doing volunteer work or working for a non-profit.0 -

I grew up (graduated High school) in Wisconsin and immediately moved south and have lived in N or S Carolina for the last 20 plus years.
Up North it was always land a doctor or lawyer or become a doctor or lawyer. Down here in SEC country, unless you are a debutante, I see Yoovie's point quite often, especially in the smaller towns. Such different cultures.0 -

well then perhaps my little town of 365 people in the swamp in the South isnt as high class as the Yankees in Minnesota? Im sorry?
This is just what it is like where I come from. In my personal individual past, being scooped up by a doctor or a lawyer or a loaded businessman was only good for tramps who didnt care if their husband cheated and left them home alone for long nights every night cause they are compensated monetarily and not really good for anything else.
We avoid workaholics and any man who makes over 100K a year cause its asking for trouble.
You gotta understand though, I come from a place where graduating high school is unheard of because you start farming or fishing when you are sixteen, marry your girl after she goes to prom and yall make poor little happy mud babies together....
I feel like I should shut up before karma hands me some loaded *kitten*0 -

I wasn't saying it like between being swank or not. Mine was also a personal experience, that was different from yours. The Mayo Clinic was the main industry in the town other then IBM. Most people worked for one or the other. So for us there was always a push to either get into the medical field or marry it because that is what is known. There are good people that make 25,000 a year and there are good people that make 2,000,000 a year, they each come with their own issues.0 -

Although I've never heard anyone say it directly, I definitely understand the perspective from the south about women staying away from $ if they're looking for love. There are douches at all levels, but our society seems to expect and tolerate bad behavior from some more than others, and social class and $ has a lot to do with it.
The last two guys I've gone on initial dates with that had $ also seemed to have a weird social status insecurity that grossed me out.
One of them worked in the same field as my brother, and once he realized that-it was competition GAME ON. He actually asked me what kind of car my brother drives. I was tempted to walk out of the restaurant (but proud to say my brother drives a very average car). Worst. Date. Ever. I totally imagined his future wife being asked to schedule yearly maintenance with the plastic surgeon.0 -
