Am I loosing enough?

Tuesday (10/16) will be 7 weeks post op for me (RNY). To date I have lost 61lbs - 33 of those pounds have been since the surgery. I've had a couple blips where for anywhere from 4-7 days the scale hasn't moved at all. Is this normal? I just keep thinking maybe I should have lost more by now. Am I just expecting too much too soon?
Tomorrow I have my 6 week post op check up and will see what my doctor and dietitian have to say.

I think you are doing fantastic. I had RNY one week before you, on 8/21. So far I've lost 41 pounds since surgery, and another 52 pounds since starting to really work at it last April. I'm also a lot bigger than you, so I had a lot more to take off. So I'd say 33 pounds since surgery is wonderful. A few people told me they had lost 40 pounds in the first month after surgery. But they also had lost almost nothing before.
For the past five weeks I've been losing exactly five pounds a week. I know that will slow down, probably sooner rather than later. Before surgery, it was ten pounds a month, with some weeks zero, and other weeks more. But as a great poster and blogger on MFP puts it (I wish I had her user name handy), the scale is a trend tool. I try not to get too caught up in short term numbers. If I keep doing what I'msupposed to do, eating at a deficit and exercising, the trend will continue in the direction I want.
Keep doing what you are doing.0 -
That's great!
Everyone loses at different speeds.....mostly based on how much you weigh pre-surgery and how fast your metabolism works.
I was losing so fast the first 4-5 months out of surgery. Now it's slowed down to about 1-2lbs a week, which my dietician/nutrionist says is ideal for the program. And obviously, it slows as you start to eat more. I was just in a plateau for what felt like forever....but I know I'm losing again because all my pants are too big again (I went from an 18 to a 13 in 5 months and now today, I am about to head out to get an 11!).
With me, when I find something I really like and my body doesn't reject, I eat it every single day. I ate beans everyday for like 3 months until my body stopped losing. I switched things up...and have added more carbs (on the suggestion of my dietician) and more healthy fats. Seems to be working!0 -
everyone is different in loosing and you are no different. I see women that have lost 90 lbs in 6 months and I think WOW that is major loss or 50 lbs in 3 months.
all depends on what you eat, how much you exercise, how active you are all together.
so do not beat yourself up over it. if you are really worried talk to your surgeon on your next visit and see what he/she says.0 -
Try not to obsess over the number on the scale. You need to obsess over making healthy food choices and not eating to deal with emotional issues. Those are the lessons you need to learn NOW. Too many people 3-4 years out have gained a TON of weight back or never even got to goal because they did not deal with their emotions. You are doing just fine!!
PS My numbers are on my profile if you want to see how much I lost per month,0
