  • HI! :)

I just started recently, too, and my biggest suggestion would be to not cheat for the first month or so. I'm basically restarting because I let myself cheat too early on, and only got my system fully cleaned out from the SAD foods for about a week. You might feel really tired and lethargic and just generally crappy after the first few days (this was me two days ago) but just push through it because there is SO much more energy and better feelings for you on the other side. :)

Add me if you'd like; I'm always happy to find more Primal/Paleo friends.

    1. This is not a high protein meat diet; it's a high fat diet. The fats are not processed fats like margarine, smart balance, canola, corn, soybean, safflower etc., the fats are those from animals that have been humanely raised (beef: grass fed; chickens/duck etc: pasture raised; pork: pasture raised; wild game), wild caught fish, eggs, coconut oil, olive oil in moderation, and some would add butter to this list.

    2. This is a diet that avoids sugar and artificial sweeteners.

    3. This is a diet that avoids grain products (no wheat, rice, spelt, kamut, oats etc. and corn ... corn is not a vegetable BTW).

    3. This is a diet that avoids legumes: beans including soy products, peanuts, peas, etc.

    4. This is a diet that avoids processed foods, which if you're not eating the stuff above, pretty much guarantees it.

    5. This diet is fish, humanely raised animals, eggs, as well as non-starchy vegetables: lots of leafy ones, healthy oils & fats, some fruit, preferrably berries, some nuts

    6. Some people eat dairy, but watch for sugar and artificial cr*p in store bought dairy products. Consider making your own yogurt for instance or look for a product that has milk and bacterial culture only.

    7. This is my take on the diet and others may differ. I have no objection to anyone else's choices--everyone is different. Personally I supplement with fermented cod liver oil; others use their chosen supplements.

After eating this way for 18 months, it's second nature and wouldn't go back to eating the old way for anything; there are no more cravings for the old stuff. Some people try to paleo-ize their eating patterns by making baked goods--that's their choice and personally I rarely make any paleo cake or whatever. At first I thought this was necessary (I used to bake a lot including bread weekly), but no more. Now I seek out ways to cook an awesome broth/stock, and delish dinners. I still love dark chocolate and bacon dipped in it is beyond question better than a reese's cup any day ;-)
