Hi,

I am a happily married 44 year old mother of 5. I have a wonderful husband and kids. I had my "moment" a few weeks ago while watching my husband and 13 year-old son finish a 5 mile road race in our town. I stood on the sidewalk proudly cheering them on! As I stood there filled with pride I was suddenly overcome by embarrassment and shame that I was not out there with them. I realized there was not any reason that I could not do what they were doing.

Needless to say, I am about 50 pounds overweight and my excercise program was non-existent!

That next day at work I texted my husband and kids told them I was going to begin the couch to 5K program. I have seen a few facebook friends do it and thought, I can do that... Each of them responded in very sweet, supportive ways to my text. I have asked my 11 year old daughter to be my partner and she more than willingly agreed. The two of us are in week 3 of the training and I have also started my "diet". I am doing very well and have lost 7 pounds so far.

I am doing this for me! Now that our children are getting older and my husband and I can do more together, I want to look good for him!

I have lots of support and look forward to looking better and most of all feeling better.

  • Welcome :)
I'm 44 too and a little over 1/2 way through the Couch25K program. It ROCKS!! :)

Welcome to the journey. It's awesome. This is a great place for support.
There's a Couch25K group here, and there's also a great Facebook Page for it.

    :)
  • What a great start for you! Good luck on your journey. I wish I could do the couch25k program but I need to assess my shins first. I am circuit training, doing zumba and kickboxing right now. The scale has been stuck for a month but I am sure it's because of the muscle build up.
  • Thank you for all of the welcoming responses.

I'm happy to say I am having a really good week. I feel great and very motivated, hope it lasts.

    Have a great weekend everyone!
