Lifting/ DOMS question

I've been lifting heavy for about a year. I did slack off over the summer because we were traveling a lot and I just couldn't really get it done. But I've been back at it 3 times a week since beginning of Sept. When I first started lifting, I had serious DOMS, which I didn't really mind because it made me feel like it was working :).

But recently, I have found that I am not as sore the next day :(. I am definetly making progress in strength b/c I am consistently increasing my weight. And I'm still doing 3 sets of 6-8 reps. I also do active recovery between sessions with either a long slow walk or a short run. And I take one real rest day a week. So I'm not really sure why I have less DOMS. Do your muscles just acclimate?

So my question is: is this normal, to have less/ minimal DOMS after lifting for a while? Or does it mean I need to work harder/ I'm not doing enough?

From what I've been able to ascertain, it's normal to experience DOMS when starting up a new program and then have them ease off until you switch up phases in a program or to a new program. Some people experience DOMS a lot, others hardly ever. As long as you are progressing, that is key.
