Ginger

Reading up on Ayurveda and the Kapha diet recently, I came across two things I could do with ease.
1) Wear an invigorating fragrance - I have a set of Energy Enlivening from The Body Shop, which contains ginger and bergamot
2) Add warming spices to my food.
So to my morning protein shake I added a teaspoon of ginger and another teaspoon of cinnamon, at lunch time I had cauliflower (recommended for Kapha, and added pepper), it's 13.08 right now and I'm feeling a lot more energetic than I usually do when I'm heading towards 2PM. This time round I didn't have to force myself to go out for a walk, I felt ready to walk.
I wouldn't have thought, ginger, cinnamon and black pepper would have such a big affect, but they certainly have for me
"Ayurveda gives ginger the status of a virtual medicine chest. That’s because this wonder spice has time-tested digestion-friendly properties, in addition to its numerous other health benefits. In India, ginger is liberally used in daily life. Ginger-infused chai is a household favorite, and it’s grandma’s antidote of choice for battling cold and flu.
On millions of dining tables in India, you’ll see matchsticks of fresh ginger that have turned a soft pink from being soaked in lemon juice and salt: a zingy accompaniment to any cooked meal.
Let’s give this knobbly root a closer look."
Cold and Flu Prevention and Treatment
Ginger has long been used as a natural treatment for colds and the flu. Ginger clears the ‘microcirculatory channels’ of the body, including the pesky sinuses that tend to flare up from time to time. Many people also find ginger to be helpful in the case of stomach flus or food poisoning, which is not surprising given the positive effects ginger has upon the digestive tract.
Digestion
Haven’t been feeling hungry? Eat fresh ginger just before lunch to stoke a dull appetite and fire up the digestive juices.Ginger improves the absorption and assimilation of essential nutrients in the body. Ginger helps reduce flatulence and reduces stomach cramps
Migraine Relief
Research has shown that ginger may provide migraine relief due to its ability to stop prostaglandins from causing pain and inflammation in blood vessels.
Menstrual Cramp Relief
In Chinese medicine, ginger tea with brown sugar is used in the treatment of menstrual cramps.
Air Travel
Feeling airsick or nauseous? Chew on ginger, preferably tossed in a little honey.
Prevention of Diabetic Nephropathy
A study done on diabetic rats found that those rats given ginger had a reduced incidence of diabetic nephropathy (kidney damage).
Ovarian Cancer Treatment
Ginger may be powerful weapon in the treatment of ovarian cancer. A study conducted at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center found that ginger powder induces cell death in all ovarian cancer cells to which it was applied.
Colon Cancer Prevention
A study at the University of Minnesota found that ginger may slow the growth of colorectal cancer cells.
Morning Sickness
A review of several studies has concluded that ginger is just as effective as vitamin B6 in the treatment of morning sickness.
Motion Sickness Remedy
Ginger has been shown to be an effective remedy for the nausea associated with motion sickness.
Reduces Pain and Inflammation
Ginger, with its anti-inflammatory properties—can bring relief. Float some ginger essential oil into your bath to help aching muscles and joints.
Heartburn Relief
Ginger has long been used as a natural heartburn remedy. It is most often taken in the form of tea for this purpose.
Aphrodisiac

Thank you so much for sharing all this! I have read about the benefits of ginger (and other warming spices) in my Ayurveda books but still have a hard time getting myself to use it as it's not a favourite flavour of mine. Still, I enjoy tea made with pungent spices including ginger. Come to think of it, I haven't made my warming tea in some time... I think I'll do that tomorrow!
And I like the idea of soaking matchsticks of ginger in lemon...a pickle of sorts that perhaps might change the flavour just a bit.
Thanks for the boost!0
