Hypothyroid and Calories

I have been reading conflicting information and wanted to see what everyone here thinks. I have Hashimoto's (Hypo). I am currently on Armour and my hormone levels should be stablizing. I have seen information that says you have to eat less when hypo because your metabolism is slower if you want to lose weight. Then I have seen that if your hormones are regulated with medication your metabolism should be fine and you can eat at normal weight loss levels. I just can't figure out how much I need to eat :-( 200-300 calories a day is a big difference!

My doctor told me I need about 500 less calories per day than the average guy as my metabolism doesn't exist basically. I am not an expert but it seems to make sense.0

Ive tried eating 1200, no change, 1000 incase 12 was to high- no change, tired the opposite of 1650- no change. Currently i aim for 1450 and that seems to be working. Although your metabolism is slower the med should regulate it. 1200 is too low and i think i was in starvation mode- after exercise i was anything between 600-1000 cals.
Try different levels out and see what works0 -

Well if your metabolism is slower common sense says to eat fewer calories if you want to lose weight. How many calories you should eat per day? That would depend on your height, how slow your metabolism really is, gender, meds, etc. Just play around with the calories to see what works for you. Everybody is different.0

I had my resting metabolic rate tested in a lab earlier this year (and about 10 months after my thyroidectomy), at a time when I was mildly hypo. The results were only slightly lower than other women my age and with similar body composition. I've always eaten well over 2000 calories a day so my metabolism never had a chance to slow down too much. I also religiously use the Scooby calculator to help me find my daily goal. My thyroid hormone levels are not optimal and I'm considerably less strong than I was prior to the TT. For the last 5 weeks however, I've stayed as close to the Scooby number as possible and finally my weight has gone steadily down as opposed to 3 up, two down, five up, one down and so on.0
