Your TDEE is the number of calories your body requires each day to stay where it is (i.e. not gain weight, not lose weight.

If you wanted to gain weight you would need to eat more than this and to lose weight you need to eat less than this. Sustainable fat loss can be achieved at a rate of 0.5 to 1lb per week. To lose 0.5 lb fat you need a deficit of approximately 1750 cals over the course of a week, or 250 cals per day. For your TDEE this would therefore mean eating 1650 cals per day to lose weight.

To lose 1lb fat per week you need a deficit of 3500 cals across the week, or 500 cals per day, so in your case this would be 1400 cals. However this is a big deficit and it is not recommended to take more than 15% deficit (TDEE 1900 x 0.85 = 1615 in your case) as the larger the deficit the more at risk you are of losing not just fat but also lean body tissue, i.e. muscle which can lead to lowering your BMR.

    This^.

I know it's tempting to lose faster, and I took the faster route, 500 deficit, but only lost about .8 lbs. per week instead of 1, and part of that was lean body mass that I am now trying to regain, which is harder. If you use the TDEE calculation, since exercise should be factored in, then you don't eat back your exercise calories, so make sure that you figured it correctly--put in as much exercise as you are planning to actually do when calculating TDEE, that is. Unless you are small or don't exercise, 1900 is pretty low. Or alternatively, figure it at sedentary and eat back your exercise calories, just make sure that you calculate them correctly.

    Good luck!

WOW that means I"m supposed to eat 1954 calories a day based on the number of workouts that I am doing during the week?? This is really a change of thought process here.
I really have nothing to lose. I haven't lost weight in 8 weeks now! That's based on a TDEE of 2299.

Let's see. I'm not sure I can start today, but I know that I'll try

I felt the same way when I figured mine out!!! I am supposed to be at 2026 based on mine, but I set my MFP calories at 1900. This is my first full week of doing it this way. My first 3 weeks on here I was set at 1200 and not always eating exercise calories back and only lost 2 lbs!! The more I read about EMTWL, the more it made sense to me! Good luck, feel free to add me, I could use more friends in the same boat as me! :)
