Things I can't have in the house :(

I have tried to bring them back in the house every so often but it always leads to me eating them with binges.

-Almonds
-Peanut Butter
-Bread/bagels
-Crackers of any sort
-Cereals
-Jelly
-Cream Cheese
-Sometimes oatmeal
-Sugar
-Brown Sugar
-Candy of any kind
-Any baked goods

I think that is most of it. The problem.... I can't have any of this in my house but then when there are pot lucks at work or people bring in treats if I take one I am a goner and I eat WAY too much. I am very frustrated in my inability to control myself. I believe that every person has a solution that will help to stop binging the problem is to find you specific solution, strategy, combination of strategies etc. I have not found anything yet that will prevent my binging. I make a conscious choice to eat, I enjoy the binge while I am doing it and then aftter I hate myself and worry about weight gain to no end.

I need to write this out too. PEANUT BUTTER is really my greatest weakness, it's terrible. However, I'm usually okay if I buy a single serving of it and have it as a meal to make it stretch...but it's definitely hard for me.

Oh my, mine is Peanut butter too, I don't understand why that seems to be a trigger food for so many people!

I think any food that is not great for you I should keep out of the house.

We had a pot luck at work yesterday. Iam still upset about how much I ate. So upset I binged again today. So frustrating!:frown:

I haven't bought peanut butter in about 15 years. I absolutely cannot moderate it.

I don't keep any processed carbs in the house. I can't.

I even binge on "healthy' snacks like protein bars. It sucks.

Potlucks??? OMG I can't do potlucks anymore. The day basically turns into an all-afternoon binge-fest!

+1 on protein bars - I eat 'em like potato chips. (can't have chips here either)

But my #1 can't-have-in-the-house food are those stupid-awesome raspberry oat bars that Whole Foods has in their bakery. Zero moderation or discipline. They come in these giant 4-packs where each bar is bigger than the palm of your hand ... and now they also sell smaller pieces by the # so I can get a taste at the store without any danger. Trying to set a rule for myself (altho I don't always follow it) is that I can have a single-serving treat sometimes. not every day. as opposed to buying a box of something.

Uggghh. I definitely have a list of what I call "red light foods" but it is difficult not having absolutely none of them in the house because it deprives my partner and then what the hell does he eat?! Ughh!

POTLUCKS....Tell me about it! I'm a nurse and I hate it when we all get fed like little pigs for being good. It is one of those professions that food is used as a reward and it constantly reinforces that twisted relationship with our diet.

There are many things that I have done to help control the binges with some of these foods. I have found if I pre-portion out these foods then I will tend not to binge on them. I used snack baggies to portion out 12 almonds to each. I use the smidget tupperware containers to portion out 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, and rubbermaid containers to portion out 1/2 cups of cottage cheese. There is something about grabbing multiple bags or containers of certain foods that makes me reign in the binge. If I grab a whole bag of nuts or container of peanut butter, then I go into a food haze and it is soon gone.

    - Peanut butter
    - Chocolate
    - Pastries
    - Dates
    - Sugary yogurt
    - Granola
    - Ice cream
    - Chips
    - Cookies
    - Nutella
    - Cereal
And because my cousins are currently living with us, this food is all in the house. So guess who has been bingeing :(

    chocolate
    pastries
    biscuits
    ice cream
    cereal(including oatmeal)
    yoghurt
    nuts/dried fruit

Anything sweet basically, other than fruit, is lethal for me to have around at this time.

I don't know if this is the way it will always have to be, or if having therapy might somehow make it safe to have these foods around but lately, even cottage cheese doesn't stay around long, and I know a lot of it is emotional, but I always had a very sweet tooth.

Absolutely dreading christmas because of the amount of food that will be around.

Ahhh, I work in a hospital too! You said it exactly! It's gotten much better due to budget cuts (when I first started here six years ago there was catering at EVERYTHING)...But now I associate work with food and that's been hard to break. I never really had a problem with bingeing at work until working here at the hospital! How ironic!
  • i share most the food and my home with three others...so I do not have TOO much control over this stuff.
here are some of my foods:

-Trader Joe's Freeze Dried Banana Chips

    -Chocolate Chip Cookies

    -Cheddar Cheese popcorn (smart food)

    -Fluff (corn syrup with marshmallow)

    -Brownies

    -Nutella

    -coffee cake

    -cheese danish

    -Whipped Cream

    -Chocolate candies (mainly milk chocolate)

OH MY GOODNESS. I really cannot have those darn banana chips. I will eat the entire bag. $2.99 gone in 5 minutes.

    I can relate.

    Whipped cream -
    Nutella -
    Brownies -
    Coffee cake -
    Chocolate pop tarts -
    Fudge -

Banana chips might be tempting to overeat on, but they wouldn't really trigger a binge for me. It'd be mainly the other sweets.

Cashews. If they're in the house they prey on my vulnerable mind until I eat the whole can.

Lucky I'm the only one who eats them regularly and I can walk past everything else without being too bothered, including a warm pan of fudge. But not cashews. No, those are the debil.
  • I think not bringing this stuff into the house IS having control! Baby steps!

That is definitely ironic indeed!! But work is a problem for me too but since the economic downturn people don't bring in as much junk as they used to for sure and that is truly helpful. Thankfully I can avoid food at work by not going in certain places and making sure I have gum and my own healthy snacks.

Anything sweet I will just eat all day. It doesn't matter what it is I will eat it as long as it's sugary and full of calories haha

When I was in thearphy a few years ago they wanted us to try periodcally to bring problem foods back into the home and I did not agree with this and still don't. I still keep binge foods OUT. Some of the foods I do not even eat anymore at all or very very seldom. For those I can not give up completely I have in single servings and this has worked for me.
  • You know, I USED to do this, but now I have a boyfriend who is a machine and loves snacking more than anything I feel like haha. He is one of those fortunate people who can eat whatever he wants and it goes right through him. So envious but ANYHOW, I keep snacks in my apartment like never before so that he has things to nibble (or inhale) when he visits. Things I don't eat myself: fried frozen cheese sticks, toaster strudels, doritos, cheez-its, candy, cookies, cocktail peanuts, etc.

I found that keeping that stuff here doesn't trigger binges for me and makes me feel /strong & good that I don't even touch them. I don't know, it's weird. For the longest time I thought I wouldn't be able to keep things in my house but it really is all about willpower and discipline. I know eating those things won't get me anywhere near where I want to be, so i don't.

Peanut butter is definitely my most craved food so I allow myself some EVERY day but only once a day. It works.
  • I binged on banana nut cheerios last night:S... Pretty much as soon as I tried them I was like "...uh oh". Won't be buying those again!

    Where do I begin?

    - Cheese, cheese, cheese! Seriously, it calls to me from the fridge
    - Peanut butter
    - Pistachios, cashews
    - Crackers, pretzels, anything snacky
    - Pasta. I can control this one pretty well but if I were to cook an entire box of pasta, I'd eat the entire box of pasta.
    - Rice
    - Potatoes

Stuff like cookies, brownies, cake - I don't usually buy so it's not a "red light food" for me.

ice cream (of any kind - bars, tubs, individual servings, doesn't matter I just keep eating eating eating it).
    chocolate
mini pretzels/snack mix/any carby and crunchy snack food

    -Peanuts and Peanut butter
    -Chocolate candy
    -Greek yogurt
    -Grapes
    -Granola
    -Tortilla chips
-Any type of chips for that matter
    -Cake
    -Ice cream and frozen yogurt
-Anything that's not included on my meal plan

Its like if I'm not supposed to have it...I just can't resist. Then I'd eat the whole thing so I can start clean tomorrow. But tomorrow I would over indulge on some new food obsession!

Can you freeze nuts or do they remain as easy to eat frozen or not ? I know chocolate can be made harder to eat by freezing, but not sure about nuts. I hate having to avoid buying them in anything other than small bags as it costs so much more.
