Dang, I graduated, now what?

Ran my first race two Saturdays ago. So what have I been doing since? Not a thing :/ today I finally ran again but the fire wasn't there. My wife just bought me new shoes and a cold gear shirt, so I gotta catch that fire again... suggestions? I'm already planning to run a race the week before thanksgiving.

Thanks! I've downloaded bridge 2 10k and have thought about re-doing C25K but quicker. But since finishing the race I haven't had any desire to run. Maybe I can break out of my slump and get my self back on the road!
  • When I finished I briefly debated just running, but I found that I needed a structured program so I moved on to Bridge to 10K. I also got the Zombies, Run! app, which I think could prove interesting.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I am on W5D1 and have also wondered what is going to keep me running after the program ends?

I have been telling everyone that since I am going to turn 50 in January, I am going to do the “Bridge Run 10K“ for my birthday. So by putting myself out there I cannot back out of it...

Also I have been using the Endomondo App for about a year to track my walks for distance but just recently started looking at the web site and all of the “geeky“ things it will track for you. Fastest Mile, Fastest Km, Fastest 3K, Cooper (not sure what this is but it looks like how far you can go in 12 minutes).

There are also challenges for who has the fastest 0.6 mile split (currently 8 of 11 @ 5:05 .... lol). Being a “competitive geek“ I see a lot of motivation coming from this site. I am sure there are others that do the same I just happen to know about this one.
Good luck on your quest for motivation and let us know how it goes.
  • I vote for keeping going with the 5K's and/or start a quest towards a 10K.

Keep trying to find the joy in running. Remind yourself of why you started, and when you run next, be present in the action. Feel yourself, your legs, your breathing....it feels good, and it feels even better when you're done!

    Here's to the flame being re-kindled. :)

I have no desire (right now) to run more than a 5k. So I'm keeping myself motivated by making sure I know the next race I'm going to run. Did mine 2 weeks ago and I have another one in about three weeks. After that, I know I'm doing one in February. I'm hoping to improve my time and also see if it will help me want to run a 10k. They have such great themed 5k's out there. It's worth it for the experience and also for the charity. Oh yeah...then there's those lovely health benefits!
Congrats on finishing! Such a great accomplishment!

Just looked this up. I'm really interested in knowing how that Zombies Run app works out for you. Please report back!

For me, I've found that I have to have a race to train for otherwise I'm lucky to get 22-24 miles a week and sometimes even not run for 4 or more consecutive days. And weather turning colder (or hotter, as the case may be) doesn't help with motivation at all.

Already done a 5K? Do another one. But have a different goal like improve your time or place in the top 3 of your group (I like Runners World Smartcoach for these goals). Or maybe a 10K. Then an 8 miler. Then a 10. Or skip all that and go full bore to a half marathon (13.1).

Or if you're feeling REALLY frisky, try a Ragnar Relay (or similar)-- I swear it's the most fun anyone can have with their clothes on. . and even that's somewhat optional.

Running is a lifestyle all unto itself.
