A1C improvement

The good news is that my A1C has gone from 11.2 to 6.6 in two months. I am very happy with this, but I would like to see my levels drop even more. The doctor was going to up my metformin dosage before she saw these results. Now she says I am doing fine, and keeping me on 500mgs. I am still getting occasional after-dinner spikes that I am not happy with, even though I have cut my carbs dramatically since I have been diagnosed. I am exercising more and I continue to loose weight more than 50 lbs in the last 8 months).

Am I just being impatient, or is there more I can do to bring my numbers down? Any suggestions?

  • Wow you are doing awesome keep up the good work. I am waiting for this months A1C to see if it has dropped again. Went from 10.5 to 9 back in June. Keep up the great work.

Some of it may be impatience, you're doing awesome! Your A1C averages 3 months of results, and you took it again in two. Fine, as your doc likely was worried and wanted to see how you were doing, but not all new results yet. So, just remind yourself that there's some old stuff still in there. If you keep it up, you should see a slightly lower next average, as your blood will be "all new."

    Rock on!
  • Thanks all~! And Thanks especially jessiekanga! I hadn't thought of that! :)

You're doing great. It will be even better as you continue to do what you're doing. As mentioned above, this current A1C still has one bad month figured into it.

Dropping to 6.6 is pretty awesome! It sounds to me like you have put some work into this and it is paying off. Celebrate the victories and this is a huge victory :flowerforyou:

deeschange we will be cheering for your upcoming test
  • thanks again....yeah I am just impatient. And I get really frustrated at seeing the spikes. recently due to the Hurricane here in NYC, I have been getting higher than usual numbers. Probably because of stress. Trying to stay calm, but it is difficult with all that is going on here.

    Thanks again for the support!

I've been getting higher BG readings, too, especially my fasting morning one. There's no dietary reason for it. So, I went looking online for the answer. Turns out adding cardio and weight training to my life is causing my body to dump stored glucose into my blood stream to repair and build muscle. That means... I am burning more fat. The exercise far outweighs the bit higher readings.
