I'm back from vacation and I was bad :) My Whole 21

Went on a week vacation and didn't get a single workout in. I started the week with a nice tight core - and ended up 10 lbs on the scale and pants that were loose, now just fit.
I indulged in a couple non-paleo things, but kept the grains mostly at bay (some cuban pop-overs were a must) - and rice was everywhere.
I found that after several sugary mojitos and chocolate desserts - my cravings kicked in like I haven't seen them since january. I found myself NEEDING doritos - looking for the chocolate bits in the travel-mix we brought. I recognized this, but couldn't seem to stop - I was so famished (ha!).
I came home and looked in the mirror and saw a puffy mid section. Very disappointed in myself, but realized what happened. After stepping on the scale I FREAKED out. now a good bit of it is/was water from the flying and bad food, so half of it disappeared in a couple days.
I knew I had to kick my addiction, so even with thanksgiving around the corner, I decided to go whole up until that day. No sugar, no alcohol at all (I never really did that). My non whole 30 approach includes a scale and logging food, but I like to monitor my proteins and carbs to see cause and effect on my workouts.
Anyway, this is really just a rant to say - I am on my eleventh month of paleo and not only is it easy to fall off the wagon, it is amazing how quickly the addictions kick back in and f with your mind. I simply had to recognize this and get back on it.
(Its funny, you can tell people, I'm not eating desert, I'm not eating bread - but when you pass on any alcohol, they think you are off)

Oh - I've been in this boat and yeah it stinks! All that great intriguing flavorful food......it is hard to turn it away. I enjoyed reading your reflections on the entire process, its nice to know I'm not the only one these types of things happen to.
Very good luck to you on your Whole 21, no doubt you will do it!

I'm glad you said you lost 1/2 the weight quickly, because gaining 10 lbs in one week is crazy. Definitely freak-out worthy.
I have to say, when I recently failed and ate a Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich and fries, I looked in the mirror the next day and totally saw a huge belly. I swear it must have been a dysmorphic thing, because it was just one meal and I didn't gain weight, but the idea of that meal seemed to obliterate all my successes for a day or two. So you may truly be puffy, but maybe you're also just being hard on yourself.
Glad you're back on the wagon, and your crossfit workouts will obliterate that puff in no time.0 -
I can totally relate to this. I've been so off and on these last 2 months. I've only gained back a couple pounds but it's still hard to accept! Two days ago, I vowed to get back on board and I'm doing ok-ish. My kids Halloween candy is SO tempting. And really, I don't *really* want it. It's so leaving with my brother after he visits this weekend!
I'm glad you're back on board. You're a big motivator here! And it's also nice to know I'm not alone:)0
