I don't know how I feel about being so close to Ralf Nader.

    hahahah!

It is cool, I cannot find anyone I am close to. :(

The question I have is - is it good for a relationship for two people to have similar views or to balance each other out?

I always put stuff like that in the "Plus or Minus" category.

It would be nice if someone agreed with me on the role of government, but if she was

perfect every other way except that (or something like that) it wouldn't be disqualifying.

So personally, I don't know which would be "better" for a relationship, i assume i would

prefer someone who is close to my beliefs.

    no surprise for me

the placement of mitt obamney is no surprise either. there is very little difference between the 2 since they are bodt pretty moderate. besides that, the difference between dems and repubs is the difference fench vanilla ice cream and vanilla bean ice cream

Haha! I agree. You are almost as radical as me, just on the other side :)

i think i'm so far over to the left because i'm very socially liberal. i think grown folks should be able to do whatever in the hell grown folks want to do with other and themselves. as long as they aren't squashing anybody else's rights that is

This would explain why I voted for Nader last election.

Funny thing is, I am the same way, I am unsure what reasoning they put me so far right.

I might retake it later to see if i get the same result.

Even things like prostitution should be legal, imo, if two consenting adults agree to it, why is it any of

    my business?

good question. i've dated several guys who were more conservative than me and normally it doesn't make a difference. the only time it's been a problem is when it's a matter of civil rights. most of my exes have been white, so i can't help but think if they are OK with denying gays, muslims, immigrants etc civil rights then why the hell is he with me?

I agree. I have more conservative approaches to business and raising children and such, but believe when it comes to adults, to each their own. Guess it makes me very liberal, though I always figured I was middle of the road pretty much.

I think I'm pretty tolerant, but I don't want to be with someone who's political views are so diametrically opposed that it would make my blood boil. Minor differences - enough for discussion and debate - would be best for me personally.

As far as relationships go, I think I need someone to balance me out. I do however enjoy someone who can discuss things in an intelligent and civil manner. I find that sexy.

I have dated people with radically different political views than my own. As long as they are intelligent individuals and understand their perspectives and how they got there it's never been a problem. In fact, a guy I'm interested in now is almost opposite in how we believe government should function (I believe in small government and individual freedoms from the state; he believes in social programs and higher taxes).

Personally, I think it's important in a relationship to be with someone who has similar views when it comes to religion or politics. They don't have to be exactly the same... But I think it's nice to share those values... *in a perfect world*

    ^ Interesting.

I think it is also interesting that we don't have any extreme authoritarians yet.

Not demonizing anyone who ends up that way, just weird we haven't seen any.

I decided to either answer strongly agree or strongly disagree instead of the agree and disagree too all questions. Not surprised at all with my results.

Looks like I would fair well in a dystopian society, like Brave New World or Fahrenheit 451.

I'm pretty sure we can't get married anymore. I'm too scared that in said dystopian society you'd eat me in cruel survival of fittest exercise.

Holy crap Mike, how can we be so like minded, yet so disagreeable all in one?

You may currently qualify for the Single's most authoritarian member award!

EDIT: If it makes you feel better apparently I am an extremist.

Wow! This was a little surprising to me. I seem to be the furthest left here, and hanging out with Ghandi left of the Dali Lama!

I also had a few issues with interpreting some of the questions as a non-America. I'm sure my Canadian upbringing planted me really far left even though I'd probably rate more center/right if the questionnaire was actually Canadian.

I thought this was one of those things that could be managed in a relationship if everything else was in place - especially a mutual respect for each other's opinions. Or so I used to think. My ex-BF is a Republican and I'm still Facebook friends with him. I had no idea until this summer (over a year after we broke up from a year and a half relationship) just how right wing he is. We weren't together during an election year!

It's too easy sometimes to think someone's opinion is stupid if they don't agree with your opinion. Some of the things he was posting on FB I can just not respect him for. I can see now that if we didn't break up because of wanting different things out of life regarding children and families, we would have killed each other this election run-up!

Very interesting! Can't upload the photo from my phone (I'm in rehearsal today, so may not be around much), so will try again later. I do think this has a US slant though, as my answers on economics should have had me right of centre, and my social answers slightly left, instead of which, I ended up well into left wing (between Shostakovich and Schonberg!), which by non-US standards, I am not. I would have expected to be slightly right of centre, on balance, and moderately libertarian.

I can see that my views on social matters - women's rights, the arts, homosexuality and sexual morality - probably make me a Democrat in the US, though I'm, broadly-speaking, a liberal conservative in the UK and much of the rest of the Western world. A number of my friends commented on this around the US election - in the UK, and elsewhere, we are definitely Conservative voters, yet in the US, would almost undoubtedly be Democrats, at least in reference to the current incarnation of the Republican party.
