Birth control (The pill) vs non hormonal methods

Yes, this is a very personal question to those of you willing to answer it... I am on Loestrin FE 28, which is a pretty low dose BC pill. However, I have noticed that I feel better when I am on the 4 day placebo pills. By feel better, I mean that I am less irritable and more likely to be "in the mood" if ya know what I mean.
Did any of you decide to switch from a hormonal method of BC to non-hormonal and have positive results? I dont necessarily mean your thyroid issues resolved but just generally feel better?

I've been OFF bc since September of last year and still feel totally crappy. However, I had Mirena and it was hell on earth, so I have to say, at least in that regard I feel a bit better.
  • I was on the Nuvaring and started going completely backwards in my thyroid treatment. Prior to Nuvaring (birth control in general), by thyroid was under control (in hypo and actually have Cushing's Disease). I ended up stopping birth control all together because with my doctor, I was able to figure out that the hormones in my birth control, esp with the Nuvaring since it enters directly into your blood stream through tissue, were "winning" against the hormones in my Synthroid to my hormone receptors in my pituitary gland. Since stopping BC, I feel a lot better!

I'm on Microgestin (so the generic equivalent of what you're on, OP) and I generally feel pretty good on it (I had HELL being on orthotricyclen). I actually feel wonkier on the offweek (headache, vision changes, moodiness)? So, I just switched from a different BC and lucked out with this one... so maybe you could try switching to a different BC?

And, related to thyroid, my male endo always insists BC can "affect your thyroid symptoms" so... who knows if that could be playing a role, too.
