Doing BFL Again Because it Works. Anyone Else?

It seems there's always a NEW diet/fitness program popping up... these days it's Insanity and P90X. But I lost weight doing Body For Life a decade ago, so when I decided to lose the weight 5 weeks ago I decided to do Body For Life again.
So far I've lost 16 pounds in 5 weeks and feel awesome.
Anyone else out these still doing it?

I have been doing the program for close to 10 years..I have really focused on the food and calorie end of things the last 6 months and continue doing a minimum of 6 30 minute workouts a week.. I believe to be the most beneficial program out there still..structured and not overwhelming..a way of healthy living0

Dave, good job! I wish I would have stayed with it all these years and made into a "way of life" also. I struggled with converting the intense 12-week program into a maintenance mode for day-to-day living. I'm thinking MFP will help with that going forward - I'll continue the workouts and "mini-meals" of BFL and adjust my calories with MFP at maintenance levels I'm more comfortable with (versus the strictness of the 12-weeks.)0

Started BFL today. I had completed in 2000. Went from 189lbs with 47% body fat to 148 lbs with 21 % body fat. I currently am at 169lbs with 40% BF. So here I go. I am going to Blog about it here. Maybe even post transformation pictures.
The one goal I didn't have in 2000 was to submit challenge completion paperwork. I wrote out my goals, I tracked my progress, just didn't complete the final essay. I always thought that was a mistake. I think if I submitted and became part of the BFL alumni, I would have felt closure and also felt tied to keeping my body for life. This time I will.
Here goes...

Good job Tracie! You have a great attitude, I'm sure you're going to do great!
I completed my first 12 weeks at New Year's. I'm male, 6' 2"... I went from 250 to 215 with significant increase in muscle and strength.
I'm continuing on... want to lose another 5 pounds, then will get my body fat measured. My next goal is to be 18% body fat. I'm probably a little over 20 now, so I shouldn't have too much further to go! I'm going to post photos when I reach that goal.
As good as BFL is, BFL with MFP is even better. Now that I log my calories I understand why BFL works. The mini-meals, the High Intensity Intervals, you can see how everything adds up. I feel a lot smarter this time - in understanding how it works I have a better idea how to maintain the loss.
Good luck!0 -
Good luck.. we are watching you

Paxbfl those are amazing results. I have no doubt you will hit your target and then have the commitment to stick with it. Yes I agree the BFL and MFP are a great combo. I have to thank you for your positive comments (here and in other posts) they really help me focus and stay motivated.
Ha, ha Dave... I appreciate your comment ' we are watching'. That is, in part, the reason why I am posting, blogging, and recording my transformation on the web. I need the pressure of my peers and guidance of champions to keep me accountable to my goals. 10 years is a fantastic accomplishment and the whole point of Body FOR Life. I won't let me down :bigsmile:0 -

I did BFL about 10 years ago and it is the only thing that has ever been effective. Unfortunately I didn't stick with it. I will be starting again next week and hope to have similar success as last time. This time I will be doing the BFL for Women program and I'm excited to see the difference. I love the structure and planning of the program and can't wait to get started! Glad I found this group.0

Welcome Dan and ukaggirl!
At the start of my journey this time I said "I know I can do this, I did it BEFORE!" Granted I suffered a huge failure in not sticking with it and gaining the weight back, but I chose not to dwell on that - except as motivation as I was really pissed at myself for letting it happen. (I'm still a little pissed!)
I find BFL + MFP to be the best combination there is. It helps you monitor your calories more closely. Instead of "a protein the size of your palm, a carb the size of your fist and a vegetable", you can more accurately keep track of your calories to stay where you need to be (under your TDEE to lose weight).
I'm also finding it valuable now that I've reached my goal weight because I can continue to do the BFL program (somewhat modified) and use MFP to maintain my weight-loss. By doing this, it's not so strict - I remember the last time I finished up a BFL cycle I was so burned out and fed up that I never wanted to do it again. I don't feel that way now.
I can continue as I currently am forever - which is the whole secret to keeping the weight off!0 -
Thanks guys0
