Dinner Party

Okay, so I am having a friend and her boyfriend over for dinner this weekend. I haven't seen this gal but only once in the last 5 years. I don't want to go overboard with a huge, impressive dinner but I would like to serve something that everyone can appreciate and enjoy. She isn't aware of my Primal dietary lifestyle, nor do I care to discuss it at this point since we're just getting back in contact. I also have no intention of making a pasta dish or having pizza, just to conform. So, I would love suggestions!

A roast? Belly pork with Thai flavours? And just add some nice stir fried veg!0

Pork tenderloin? Maybe you can find a nice marinade for it. Maybe some roasted carrots and broccoli with a honey marinade? For dessert maybe you could find a pumpkin mousse or something!0

Tilapia with a fruity salsa?0

Steaks on the grill, a variety of vegetables grilled and/or sauteed, mashed cauliflower, and mixed berries in some yogurt for dessert. Serve with a bottle of Syrah or Zinfandel.0

I just did roast beef with roasted spicy cauliflower and bought mashed potatoes and added cheese so they tasted good for the carb eaters. Did a gravy with the juice, added portobello mushrooms and thickened with Xanthan Gum. Pretty darn good if I do say so myself. No one really notices you don't eat the spuds.0

Don't change anything that you have been doing. You might want to use a fancy plates set and silverware to impress them. They won't say something like this to you, "Your food was horrible and I ain't coming back again, ever!" LOL I am sure they will love your paleo food.0

Really cooking meat and veggies will make anyone happy, maybe a salad too!0

Yeah, I suppose that would pretty much appeal to the masses! Great suggestions everyone!
Now just to decide between steak and chicken. I have a delicious recipe for a spicy/sweet chicken thigh.0 -
We have people over fairly regularly and usually go with a roasted whole chicken or salmon filet with potlatch seasoning. For sides, it's some sort of a salad and mashed or baked sweet potatoes (sometimes squash for those more adventurous ones... sigh). No one has ever mentioned missing bread. For dessert, if it's really special, I make a flourless chocolate cake-- delicious and looks impressive. Otherwise, I just skip it. Again, no one's mentioned missing it.0

This.
Really, who can say no to that? It's both simple and formal at the same time. As for the meat, doesn't really matter. Though that chicken thigh thing sparked my interest - care to share?0 -

Update: This went very well! We made steaks with mushrooms, steamed green beans and roasted potatoes. I served a bread on the side, for those that eat it. And I enjoyed a glass of red wine. Great time and the dinner was enjoyed by all!0
