Anyone have elevated estrogen levels because of Hypo? Just got lab results back from last weeks 12 vial poke, and the only things I have are low iron, low Vit D, and HIGH estrogen, like double what it should be. I'm not pregnant, I don't eat/drink soy, and I don't take birth control....just wondering what to think about it. I've been having crazy periods (every 2 weeks since Aug). Thankful I have a follow-up with my women's health PA next week since my endo didn't seem to think it was thyroid related :/

What kind of a diet do you follow? Are you in peri-menopause? (starts at 35 for many women). One's natural progesterone production starts waning about that time (age 35) as ovulation begins to sputter out. As we stop ovulating every month, our progesterone production falls---much faster than our estrogen production falls. Estrogen production then essentially becomes a run-away train as it is unopposed by natural progesterone. Thyroid plays a role as well. Estrogen blocks thyroid hormone from being taken up by the cells of the body and then the thyroid gland responds by cutting thyroid production. That means less energy, which, in turn, means that estrogen levels will not be brought down by vigorous exercise. Becomes a vicious cycle.

My lady hormones are all jacked up. I don't have regular periods, and I have a ton of acne. When I was on birth control pills that stuff was more normal, but then I was tired and hungry and felt like crap most of the time.

I have no idea what my estrogen levels are. Since I won't have any intentions of getting pregnant, I have discouraged my doctor from investigating any of it. I figure as long as I feel good, I don't want to be messed with. If irregular periods and pimples are the worst of my problems, I have an extremely good life.

I'm only 31, and that sounds like an awful little cycle, but one I feel like I'm in. I'm tired and cranky all the time, even though my levels are normal. I've put on a few pounds even though I eat a pretty healthy diet and exercise 6 days a week.

Fiber, I wish I didn't feel like crap! My periods before Aug were normal, 26 days like clock work, then all the sudden I started having 9 days of bleeding, 7 days off, 8 days on, 9 days off, etc...you get the picture. It has been awful!

you might want to let your doctors investigate. you could have PCOS also....

You could try using bio-identical progesterone cream (in the U.S. it is available at health food stores and sometimes at pharmacies, and is available on-line as well). Kokoro is one that I am familiar with---it is a good product and is okayed by Dr. John R. Lee's organization. He kind of wrote the book about natural progesterone creams---check him out on-line (he's passed away but his organization is carrying forward). Dr. Jonathan Wright was in association with him and has carried Dr. Lee's work forward since Dr. Lee's death. The progesterone cream must be "bio-identical" or it won't work--don't fall for "yam creams" as they typically do not contain any real progesterone. It might "kick start" your progesterone production into higher gear because it will stimulate ovulation which, in turn, boosts progesterone levels. In any case, it will provide the opposition to high estrogen that you need. But, initially, it could cause your estrogen receptor cells to "wake up" so it is important that you keep to a lower carb/ lower animal fat diet (but eat all the "good fats" that you want---they will supply essential fatty acids that you might be missing). Fish, seed and nut oils and avocados are some examples of "good fats". I would avoid eating any sugar or wheat (wheat is very problematic for a great many people). Also, vigorous exercise helps to bring down estrogen levels, so keep on keepin' on in that area. Fruits and especially vegetables are very important for giving you the nutrients you need to nourish your body back to balance. All calories are NOT the same. A cookie and an apple have approximately the same number of calories but an apple is a nutrient bonanza---a cookie is a nutritional zero. Since progesterone is a "feel good" hormone because it interacts with thyroid in a positive way, sensitizing the cells to thyroid hormones (and it also raises serotonin levels) you will likely feel so much more positive that it will enable you to watch your diet and exercise more diligently. Good luck.

Here is a little tutorial on natural progesterone therapy from Dr. Mercola (he has the #1 alternative health site in the world).

Thanks for all the info! I am waiting to see 'why' my levels are so high all the sudden, then I'll see what I can do change that :)
