like most I work 40+ hrs in a week and when I'm not working I'm driving my daughter all over the place for this practice/club/ activity and that. during the summer it was easy to walk the track and still be able to watch her practice. now that its getting colder and darker (which doesnt help the knees) there isn't much room. Any suggestions?

  • I actually just invested in a pedal exerciser. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Carex-Pedal-Exerciser/6537516

My husband has very bad knees, so it's difficult (with his weight as well) to walk far or do most any other cardio. I did some researching online, and physical trainers working with very obese who have mobility issues use pedal exercisers to get the cardio, and especially muscle rehabilitation and circulation without any impact. You can sit in your chair and pedal away, and also place the exerciser on a table and sit down and work out your arms too.

I've been using it as well and it does get your heart rate up and help burn calories.

Sparks people.com has a number of short videos with coach Nicole that are chair exercises. I am using the basics of those to set up my own routine. Also, try googling chair exercises. There is yoga, Pilates, and more that can be done seated. Resistance bands seated are also good. I will be starting this in the new year.

If you do a search on youtube, there are quite a few videos which feature seated exercises. My favourite is the revelationwell series. Someone else mentioned SparkPeople, they have good videos too.
