Aw man. I was enjoying the conspiracy theorising (real word?) going on in here. I was waiting for someone to talk about how Obamacare is going to start handing out the Mark of the Beast on 03/23/13. Oh well, back to reality.
Pretty sure that happens on 12/21/12.0 -

The bible belt is going to secede?!!!
SAY YES!!! PLEASE SAY YES!!!0 -
Except it's not just people in the Bible belt... unless Washington, California, Ohio, New York, and New Jersey are a part of the Bible belt all of a sudden.
I still think it's all crazy talk and have to agree that it is all because of being a sore loser... It's like I said, if it really were about the things that were outlined in some petitions, then by God, why wasn't the petitioning and outcrying happening 8-10 years ago when the majority of the programs where put into effect.... that's right because George Bush did it and not Obama... Obama may have voted for the extensions while in Senate (but who knows he hardly voted for anything in his short time as US Senator... but that's a different thread)... but he sure didn't come up with it... he just railed against it.... until that is, they were in his hands.0 -
Petitions have now been created for ALL 50 states:

My favorite part of the article
Of course, the petitions are little more than symbolic—and nothing new. Similar petitions were filed after the 2004 and 2008 elections. And at least one petition filed on the site asks that the president sign an executive order to strip U.S. citizenship from anyone who signed a petition to secede and requests that they are "peacefully deported."
What is peacefully deported lol do we throw flower at you on your way out0 -
I say goodbye and good riddance to those who wish to secede.0

hahaha... yeah, I found that petition funny too... and the one from Austinites begging to secede from Texas and stay with the US...
It's just pure crazy talk... and people just need to get over it....
Seriously, if you don't like the direction the country is going in... then by God, do your research before entering the voting booth and vote for the Best candidate... not just the most photogenic or most advertised one... this isn't a Tide commercial for crying out loud... nor is it the local sports rivalry.... The problem with this country is more that people aren't willing to do a bit of critical thinking and reading. If someone did do their research and still gravitated towards Obama or Romney... great.... But hardly anyone (except for the supporters and a few others) realized that there were more than 5 candidates that were on enough ballots that they could have recieved 270 electoral college votes. How on God's green earth are those not "viable" candidates? Because they don't garner enough votes because people are too lazy to look past their noses? Seriously, how hard is it to grab a League of Women Voters pamphlet and know a tiny bit of the candidate's stances to know if you want to dig more? Most people couldn't tell you why they voted for which candidate. Members of this group notwithstanding of course. But no, it seems like everyone is content for the Republicans and Democrats to essential vote-block anyone else and we end up with the same cycle after cycle....
Can you tell what I am discontented about? And even then I don't advocating seceding from the Government over that.... I will just keep "wasting" my vote on a candidate I believe in and try to get others to as well... maybe then by one vote at a time we can stop being so politically stagnant.0 -

i remember a comedian (Carlin...Gallagher?) saying in his routine a long time ago that we should let Texas secede. then they could go off and kick the *kitten* that needed to be kicked without us getting the backlash. maybe its not such a bad idea.0

Texas would just be conquered by Mexico.
In reality, even if Texas were to vote to secede, the US would never allow it. The number of US military bases, infrastructure, and oil assets on government land in Texas would not be allowed to leave.0 -

Go. Just go. Hook your home up to your pick up or Camaro, take Alabama or Mississippi or some other completely useless state, fill it with the mouth breathing birthers who want to form a 3rd world country because they are so angry that their guy lost and go. Make sure you pay your share of the national debt first. We also need to get the triple digit IQ people who want to stay in the US out first. Then we can make Puerto Rico a state and we won't even have to change the flag. Welcome to Dumbf*ckistan.
I love this. I can't take the crying anymore. Lets kick them out!0 -
[quote...I think a by far more sane way to go about starting a revolution is by finding an independent candidate and starting a true grass-roots movenment.

I'm beyond sick of the "your guy lost attitude" coming along with criticism of this movement. Obviously you don't get it or you are content with living in tyranny. To me, and everyone I know that has signed it, it has nothing to do with the election. It has to do with the current state of this country called 'America'.
I signed. Do I think it will happen, NO. Do I want it to, NO. I signed it as a statement. To let our leaders see how sick the people are of their decisions, how we are sick of being treated like peasants. That the country we are living in is NOT America. I am one of the most Patriotic people I know. I love everything American was founded on, the sacrifice that went into making this country and everything America stood for.. I have half a mind to stop paying the government *kitten*. I'm 25 years old, the outrageously, out of control debt is not my responsibility. I haven't lived/work long enough to pay my 'fair share" that people old and wiser (what a joke) have arranged for me to inherit. Thank you. The government doesn't pay it's bills, which costs me more, why the hell should I?
The Constitution has NO VALUE. Our government leaders disregard it in every manner. Our government in the past 10 years has made it so that people can be spied on by the government with NO cause or warrant. From the local police to the CIA, we are being watched with satellites, drones, cell phones and our computers. Any single citizen can be taken away and never seen again, no trial, no rights. The federal government has disregarded and walked over the Constitution regarding states rights, the 2nd amendment and enforce laws that they do not have the power to!
The most un-patriotic action I have seen are those who are letting this country turn into what it has and are doing nothing about it but bending over and taking it. Our service men swear to defend the Constitution, yet they take orders that blatantly are disregarding the Constitution. Our Servicemen swear to defend us against enemies foreign and domestic, yet are ruled by the biggest enemy to the people, our Federal government. It makes me sick.
A little piece of truth I have grown to love over the weekend. If anyone really cared about this country, enough to call themselves patriotic, they wouldn't go along with this corrupt government and allow it to continue the way it is. Everyone who supports this government, this President, Congress and Senate, is blind, and doesn't deserve freedom.
And a little financial advice to our leaders before I end my rant:

I agree with most of your points. Unfortunately, most people will continue sitting in their houses, accepting the garbage fed to them by mainstream news media, telling themselves the gov't is looking out for them, until they are directly affected. I honestly don't know how anyone could believe the gov't is 'looking out for us'....unless you're into sadistic torture.0 -
I'd like to throw in a couple of my thoughts as I am short on time.
I would count the secession petitions as more legit if they were backed by the states themselves instead of the few disgruntled citizens. Of course, I say this every four years when there is a presidential election. This secession "threat" has become quite the bandwagon since the 2000 election.
Many citizens of this country can't even take care of their own families, how can these citizens help govern a whole nation.
I think being governed by corporations is worse than being controlled by an elected congress. Unfortunately, they are becoming one in the same.
I see nothing wrong with a revolution. I fought for folks to have that right. I've seen people die so others can use and abuse that right. This country could probably use a revolution. Too bad it won't be the right people that start it.
At least if the US allowed a secession of some of the "people", we wouldn't have to baby Israel anymore.0 -

Problem is, the word revolution conjures imagery of violence. There is no need for a drop of blood when it is really just as easy as everyone who votes to select a third party choice and rock the boat a little. That's it, all that it takes. I think it should be tried before we mount up and start slaughtering eachother, but that's just me.0 -

citizen votes don't count in a presidential election, so it is going to take a little more than a few votes in a presidential election to get a third and 4th party in the game. It is of the utmost necessity to get corporations OUT of our government before we can succeed again.
Either that, or become a democracy, then people can legitimately b1tch.0 -

I agree with some of what you say. The feds are way too nosy and our Constitution has been treated as so much toilet paper by Bush and Obama both. And plenty of other Presidents as well.
But America treats other countries and the people in those countries even worse. What they do here is nothing to the terror and murder they spread through other countries. If any state successfully seceded (it won't, of course) it would then be treated as horribly as America has treated, for example, Haiti, Cuba, Chile, Argentina, Honduras, El Salvador, and I could basically go on with that list all day.
If you don't like what this country does, you should be happy you live in it while you protest it, because it's far more dangerous to protest it elsewhere, and I say that as someone who fully intends to leave it and continue to object to its horrible, criminal foreign policy.0
