The end is in sight!

So my surgery has finally been scheduled! December 12th is my big day! I'm excited and anxious. Any tips or questions you think I should ask my surgeon as I approach?

  • That is great news that you have a date! I had a gastric sleeve on 11 October and prepared by making broths, soups and getting in protein shakes for after the op. That really helped. I also tried to make sure house was clean and tidy, washing done etc so it was nice to come home to. I also loaded up my Kindle with some good books.

In terms of the hospital part, I made sure I packed some refreshing wipes for my face, a nice rich lip balm, hand cream and hand sanitiser gel. I also packed a really comfortable outfit for going home in - joggers and a t-shirt. When I came out, I had quite a lot of different medications to manage, so a handy tip was writing them all out with times and ticking them off as I took them. I don't think I could have kept myself right otherwise between pain relief and my regular meds!

Anyway, hope it all goes well for you!
  • Those are some really great tips. I had thought about prepping food for my family but not so much for myself!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!!! That is awesome. I had lapband on 6/28. I didn't have to stay in the hospital. I think I was home by 4pm ish with going in about 5am. I had protein drinks on hand, some broth, jello, and a pillow for my tum. didn't know my doc's office would give me one - but I have heard alot of people saying they needed that pillow when going home. I also cleaned the house, did laundry, made sure i had a couple of books to read and a few movies on the DVR to watch. I slept alot and didn't watch tv or read! My husband created a spreadsheet to help us keep track of the meds, how many ounces of fluid I was drinking - what I was consuming - protein wise, etc. We found that to be so beneficial. It was a life saver when the doc wanted to know what I was doing and how much I was getting in.

You will do great. and again - congratulations!!!!
