Too far?

banner-play-and-learn.png

So .. this is out in the chit chat thread and I threw up in my mouth a little bit. Some people think this is perfectly acceptable and teaches the kiddos how to be a mother. I think it is disgusting. Although I am one of those people that want to hurl when I see someone breast feeding in public. I didn't breastfeed my child because the thought of him attached to my boobies was too much for me to even think about.

What are your thoughts?

Not sure which is worse, that or the bratz dolls.

EDIT: However, people are free to market what they want, simply don't purchase it.

Definitely Bratz dolls. At least breast feeding can be recognized as a good thing (at the appropriate time). Bratz dolls teach little girls that their entire existence is to be slutty. Barbie at least teaches little girls that they can do what they want with their life (anything from stay at home mom to veterinarian).

I'll preface this by saying that I am a nurse and am supposed to support breast feeding...but I could just not breast feed my future kids. It kinda creeps me out thinking of a baby hanging off my boobs for months. Not to mention sore nipples, engorgement, leaking, etc.

A few months ago, I posted a thread in chit chat about breast feeding in public because Kasey Kahne had tweeted something about it and he got a lot of flack. I said I supported him and I said I don't care to see it and I got attacked. I had also said I won't breast feed and many posters said things to the effect of that I don't deserve to have children etc. I'm on my iPhone but if I can find the link later Ill post it.

I was bottle fed and I am fine. I support breast feeders but I don't care to see it unless I'm at work or nor do I want to do it.

That being said I find the doll creepy.

I don't know .. I used to make my barbie have sex with GI Joe. Ken didn't exist in my world. I think that I made him the butler. hahahahahaahhaa. He certainly couldn't be in MY barbie pink corvette.

Pffffft. I guess that it could be considered a good thing .. it just seems so very wrong to me to see a child holding a doll up to her ... uh .. chest.

Anytime a baby with a bottle is marketed it's not a problem. Why is this different? Our kids mimic everything we do, they could be mimicking a lot worse.

i agree with everything you said. I was bottle fed, my son was bottle fed all of my family and their children were bottle fed and they are all just fine. I don't know why people get all freaked out about this subject. it is not their child, why don't they just mind their own damn business and cover up their own boobs. blech.

The picture is of the new breast feeding doll.

I'm a fan of a woman choosing to feed her baby in whatever manner she chooses. I am not a fan of children having a toy that mimics breastfeeding (nor am I a fan of Bratz). If someone else would like to purchase this, that is their right, however I won't be buying one for my daughter.

I will say I breastfed both of my children, and I wouldn't have had it any other way-but I would NOT get that doll for my mine! Some things you just need to learn as an adult, not a child.

I think Bill Maher had the best retort to someone saying breast feeding in public should be embraced because it is natural. He said so is farting. I don't want you to do that around me either.

my barbie was a lesbian because I didn't have a Ken or GI Joe. I just cut of of their hair really really short and that was the "boy".

Yeah.. this doll creeps me out. I want to say that this over-sexualizes little girls..but the problem is actually that North American society over-sexualizes breast feeding and has a phobia of it.

Barbie and other "grown up" dolls are in fact much more sexual.

HAha, I never really went through a barbie phase. I had a weird combo of MLP and street sharks and GI Joe and Polly Pockets.

My point was just that between Barbie and Bratz, Barbie at least shows you can be sexy and smart ;)

As far as breast feeding I understand that it's preferable to do so, and I probably would too if I ever get around to having kids... but the biggest problem I have with this doll is that it's breast centric. With just a plain babydoll kids pretend to feed them, change their diapers, breast feed, put down for a nap - all those things. I don't like that the entire purpose of this toy is to breast feed, the least of which is because it also limits the childs imagination (I don't care for highly specialized/specific toys).

That being said, I don't think it's damaging or wrong... me personally, I find it a bit odd. If I was babysitting and the kid wanted to play "breast feeding" I'd suggest we play hide and seek instead.

I don't have a problem with it as long as it's covered. Don't whip your breasticle out and get all huffy about people staring. Put a blanket over that *kitten*.

Well for one the cartoon is much more about accepting being different and such. They arent near as materialistic as Bratz. They even have a lab were you can combine different body parts and make your own monster high doll. Plus mommy is totally mad they didnt have anything this punk when I was growing up lol.. When my daughter talkes about them she always say oh opperretta is the daughter of the phantom of the opera ect ect. She likes them cause they are the "kids" of the monsters. SHe was telling me about one of the boys on the show whose half monster and half human and how difficult it was for him. So they kinda sneak in all the accepting people for who they are. Plus anything that encourages my daughter to wear a to-to with knee high striped socks is just awesome.

With the Bratz its all about rude gimme gimme gimme and even the non doll toys look sluttly.

Before I had kids I thought breastfeeding was the absolute most disgusting thing in the world. Once I had them - different story. I laugh and say I could now be president of the La Leche league. But that doll is awful. No need to teach about breastfeeding until you have a real baby in your tummy.

The doll doesnt sit right with me. I dont think kids need to emulate everything adults do. They are children ffs!

Neither does 2 dolls having sex!!!!!!!!! I must be sweet and innocent cos I really dont remember thinking, or even knowing what sex was, at 8 years old!

It doesnt bother me if a Mother needs to breast feed her baby. I'd rather my friend be out having lunch with me than having to rush off every 2 hours to feed.

However, I've seen a prog on Mothers breast feeding toddlers and up to 8 years old!! This kinda freaks me out!! :noway:

Not in support of this type of doll AT ALL. I have a friend who has 7 kids....and the breastfed every one of them, so the older kids understand what she is doing when feeding the baby. But, one of her daughters as a child would say " i am feeding my baby", and hold it up to her chest---her sisters never had bottles so that is all she knew. Still not in support of this doll, though!

On another note, I made my barbara have sex with each other- Barbie orgy!

Let me say this first....I completely support breastfeeding, as long as women use common sense, do not take your shirt off with your hoo ha's flapping in the wind and do it. (I say it because I've read about it) Women have to remember that little boys (who grow into men) were taught (some of them) not to stare at lady's parts.... so give them the courtesy of what thier mamma tried to teach them and at least use a burpcloth to attempt to cover..... enough said??? But yes, boobs are just like a bottle, if the baby is hungry feed it.

Let's see my first thought was......

"OMG, seriously this market will feed on anything that moves....."

It bothers me to see this kind of thing, as well as the Barbie that has the baby you push the tummy and it turns around with a baby. To each thier own, everyone is different and it takes different things to get through different people that certain things are acceptable and you should respect others practices..........to an extent.

In my heart I feel that this is just another push to make little girls grow up faster, let them be kids G* Damnit. We have enough *kitten* going through kids heads as it is....let them play let them be innocent.... LET THEM BE LITTLE. A little girl might want to mimic mommy, but I don't really know what you call it. To me, (and I suppose hang me for this) little girls shouldn't really even be aware of (at least the age this girl looks in the photo that they are targeting) those body parts yet. They aren't developed....Society needs to stop forcing this down our kids throats.

OMG, I think I've said too much....I'm gonna quit. :flowerforyou:

I will preface this by saying even though I have never had children, I am all for breastfeeding and it is a shame it has been sexualized.

However, this doll is pushing it too far. Let our children be children. They grow up entirely too fast as it is, and this does not help it any.

And btw yes my Barbie had Ken as her butler and GI Joe as her man ... lol

I was thinking something along the same lines myself, except that it is perfectly natural for us to urinate, etc. Yet, we don't drop our pants in the middle of a restaurant - toilets in our society have privacy associated with them. This is something I also believe should have an element of privacy to it.

I'm disgusted by the doll. There's something incredibly creepy to me about a little girl pretending her doll is sucking on her pre-pubescent boob. I agree that children don't need to emulate all things adults do, as Anna said. We wouldn't want them emulating creation of that baby at that age either!
