Work Out Tip Day 2

Options
Sorry I didn't post a work out tip on day 1!

Have a plan before you go to the gym!

Ok ladies! Who has ever walked into a gym and felt totally intimidated! If we were sitting in a group I would be raising my hand! I don't know how many times I would walk into a gym and immediately feel totally out of place and lost. I would see all of these in shape girls and guys doing their thing on the machines or free weight area and just scurry on over to the treadmill. I always thought, well I know how to run, I'll just do that! However, I would watch all of those people as I ran on my little treadmill and wish I knew what do over there! I always felt like even if I tried all of "those people", would think I was silly for even trying or I would be in their way. I figured they would immediately know I had no clue what I was doing and be annoyed by me. Well I was tired of running and I started doing my research. I figured, hey at one point it was their first time at the gym before too but I still wanted to go in with a plan! I didn't want to wonder and just pick out some machine, do couple reps, and then go find some other machine on a whim and honestly I did not want to use the machines at all! I am barley 5ft...Ok maybe not even that...so the machines at the gym just don't accommodate more my size. My feet would dangle or I just couldn't reach what I was supposed to be grabbing on to (talk about embarrassing)! So I decided to would stick with free weights, Swiss balls, medicine balls, body bars, kettle bells, resistance bands, bosu balls, and of course my own body weight! I wanted something that I could completely control and could also do in the corner of the gym while I was still pretty shy! I also wanted to get into the routine of using equipment that I could easily buy and have at home! Tomorrow will be a tip on how to create the perfect home gym!

Well after I decided what equipment was best for me I needed a routine. I am no fitness expert and I am not super inventive so I took to Amazon! If you haven't noticed, I am an Amazon.com addict! I live overseas so I pretty much get everything in the mail from them! Any who, here is what I found! They are called Fit Deck exercise cards! They have a deck for pretty much any piece of work out equipment that I mentioned above and I went wild and bought them all! They are awesome! I keep each deck separate and decide which type of work out I will have. My favorite is the Swiss ball and body bar work out. So I would get those two decks and usually the body weight deck and shuffle all of those cards to make a workout routine! Each card explains how to do the exercise and gives illustrations. The card also has levels for beginners, intermediate, and advanced so you won’t ever feel over whelmed or underwhelmed by the card. Making a workout routine with these is a no brainer and you could have a different work out every single time! The price does add up so you might want to see if you can buy some used ones if you know you aren’t going to use some decks as much as others.

These cards have really helped me with my routines and have given me more confidence when I go into the gym. Having a plan makes all the difference! And trust me once you go in there with a plan and show up enough you will realize there is nothing to worry about and a few of 'those people", that you thought had a plan are just roaming around. After a while you might start noticing others following what you are doing! You can bring in the cards to the gym or just write them down. I keep a journal or my work out so I always have my little green book with me. I put the exercise, how many reps, and how many sets I plan to do.

They also have cards for swimming which I was super excited about since I love swimming! Here are their categories

I love them all! They even have some for the office, the plane, pre and post natal, baby stroller and yoga!

I would also look at the Body Sculpting bible for Woman series. These books have awesome work out routines in the back and all throughout the book they give step by step guides on how to perform the work outs properly! Great for beginners!

I sure do! I have always looked at the website Spark People. It is a wonderful website that gives amazing information on diet and exercise! They are also on YouTube where they give free work outs! I did a jump out work out with their YouTube video what about gave me a heart attack the other day! The website is a lot like MFP in the fact that it is based on a community of people that want to lead healthier lives and they offer expert advice! You can even sign up for the recipe or exercise of the day! When you register you put in your current weight and then your goal weight, from there the website gives you a great guide and time line for getting to that goal! The Spark People website goes deeper into your weight gain and loss issues by asking questions about your mental health and physical health which is a great added feature because we all know our weight gain is usually connected to more than just food and laziness! You can even get meal plans made for you for FREE which is based on your personal preference and your goals! Check out the site and their YouTube channel and let me know what you think! They also have an App but it costs 4 dollars. It has the same functions as the MFP app but more features.
