Intermittent Fasting

So this is somthing I have just started. I am on to my 2nd week and 2nd time doing it for 24hrs. The first time wasn't so bad ....actually it was pretty hard and I knew I was having crayfish for tea so the thought of that was making me very hungry before the time, I think I lasted 23 1/2 hrs. There is a lot of info out there (below are some of the interesting links/ posts I found. Would love to hear about other peoples experience.

Scientists are uncovering evidence that short periods of fasting, if properly controlled, could achieve a number of health benefits.

How Fasting Benefits Your Body
Scientists acknowledged three major mechanisms by which fasting benefits your body, as it extends lifespan and protects against disease:
1. Reduced oxidative stress – Fasting decreases the accumulation of oxidative radicals in the cell, and thereby prevents oxidative damage to cellular proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids associated with aging and disease.
2. Increased insulin sensitivity and mitochondrial energy efficiency – Fasting increases insulin sensitivity along with mitochondrial energy efficiency, and thereby retards aging and disease, which are typically associated with loss of insulin sensitivity and declined mitochondrial energy.
3. Increased capacity to resist stress, disease and aging – Fasting induces a cellular stress response (similar to that induced by exercise) in which cells up-regulate the expression of genes that increase the capacity to cope with stress and resist disease and aging.

I guess the only way to find out if Intermittent Fasting is something for you, is to be open-minded and try it for at least 8 weeks. That's what I’m doing.

I love IF! Other than special occasions, I don't plan on ever eating breakfast again. I used to feel sick if I didn't eat breakfast, and would get horrible low blood sugar headaches if I didn't eat frequently. Now I can go pretty easily until even 3pm before I eat. Love it.
