    Well now that you all have thoroughly inspired me, I'm off to start my deload week. Talk about anticlimactic! :laugh:

    LOL, i know im going to hate the deload week, but i know it is crucial to the program so i will if i must!!! :-(

    On mine this week - I am using it to work on form (after seeing my deadlift video...I need it!).

    On mine this week - I am using it to work on form (after seeing my deadlift video...I need it!).

    I haven't seen a need for one yet, but my wife has taken a couple since August. She always seems to feel better after them, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I just prefer the 'eat more and sleep more if you feel like hell' line of thought. :)

    Planning deload weeks always bugged the hell out of me. I always kind of figured I should deload when I was feeling like crap and couldn't move the weight anymore, not when my log told me to.

    What I'm doing now though I'm actually quite excited about. For my staple lifts I'm running the first 3 weeks of 5/3/1 as perscribed twice in a row and at the same weight (aiming to beat my reps the second time around). Then I'm doing a single deload week, and then a skills assessment week to gauge what poundage I should use for the next cycle.

    I still have a deload, but it's so that I can rest up for the assessment (or meet if I'm doing that). Makes more sense to me.

    I had never thought of it being used in quite that manner. I have always kind of viewed them as 'a f*ckoff week' for people who like 'f*ckoff weeks', primarily because people insisted upon throwing them into their schedule, whether they needed it or not. However, when being used as a 'rest without rest' tool for one looking to properly gauge their 1RM or lift in a meet, I can see it as making perfect sense.

    I am on Wendlers 5/3/1 so the deloads weeks are really just decreasing the weights on the main lift. I do take a full break every 12 weeks or so though - wait till you get my age, you will need them :wink:

    Some people (of all ages) do really see benefits from deloading, but I think a lot of that has to do with how you program and where you're at. A while back shortly after I tore my oblique, I definitely needed deloads because I would get frustrated at where I was and try to progress too quickly, they forced me to stay in check somewhat. Right now, I'm more comfortable with where I'm at strength wise and am programming fairly conservatively, so I don't specifically need the reset as often. Different strokes.
