Why is Bodymedia fit core so cheap on eBay

They are $99 dollars new and are going often for less than $40 used on eBay. This seems a huge reduction. Am I missing something?

I know they have been out for a year or two and there is a monthly fee, so most likely they got where they wanted to and decided not to keep it for maintenance. I'm getting one for Xmas and have heard only good things about it. Besides that the arm bands do need to be replaced every so often.
