First official 5K coming up on Sunday 12/9. Folsom Jingle Bell Rock'N 5K. Ran a trial 5K before work this morning and am at exactly 30 minutes. Hopefully I can match that or better on Sunday.

On a side note, my wife gave me an early birthday present of a HRM. I ran with it the first time today and didn't like the zone I was in. I was above 90% of my max heart rate for most of the run. Would prefer to be at closer to 70%-80% if that.

Good Luck on the up coming run!!! My only advice is be careful of the starting pace. When I did mine on thanksgiving morning I went out way to fast (staying with the crowd) and just about burned out... keep us posted on how it goes...

Good Luck. I did my first 5km last weekend. I couldn't believe how supportive the organisers were of us first-timers. Really good experience. I'm hooked.

Thanks all! overall it went pretty well. The run had some hills that I wasn't really fond of but managed to do OK. I made it in the chip time of 29:24 which allowed me to make my goal of < 30 minutes. Came in 20th overall and 3rd in my age group (40-49). Not too bad since I believe there were somewhere between 100-120 runners. Freaking cold though. Got to the run at 7:45 am and it was in the high 30's and was mid 40 by the time the run started.
