My preference is outside, outside, outside, indoor track, treadmill. I live in a cold snowy climate and while I like marathon training in the spring and summer (and fall) it can be grueling in the winter. Dress in layers. I use, when really cold, ski balm (can be purchased anywhere they sell supplies for snow skiers) on my cheeks and nose to keep the wind off of them. I have a pair if Yak Trax for when it gets a bit icy. And if just too nasty to go out I do have an indoor track option (sometimes) and a treadmill option.

I prefer running outside too and will run wearing 2 pairs of tights, tank top, long sleeve tech shirt, long sleeve fleece and my running jacket plus snow gloves, a buff and a hat! It takes a while to get dressed :-) but its worth it. Runners get to enjoy the beauty of winter in a special way that most others don't.
