With Channuka fast approaching, yes its another Jewish festival and yes, one that revolves around food, and oily food at that!!!!

So while everyone around us is scoffing down the hi cal food, what are we going to do??
Well sitting at the sidelines eating carrot sticks is not an option as far as I am concerned.....

So today I took 60 grams of 100% wholewheat challah dough that I made with my breadmaker, flattened the dough, put it in a preheated heavy based frypan with NO OIL and dry fried it on both sides. I then smothered it with apricot jam. Total calorie count, approx 200, and it tasted exactly like a doughnut except better and didn't leave me feeling sick.....

Wishing everyone a freilichen, lichtige Channuka!!

  • Depending on how much baking you really want to do, there are recipes out there for donuts that incorporate unusual ingredients like sweet potatoes that make for a healthier treat. There's also the option (if one has willpower!) of buying mini donuts or donut holes instead of full-sized donuts.

Very late on this, but I found a recipe for baked donuts that taste like they are fried!

Now I am trying to tweak my dessert recipes by taking out the oil and using other stuff. It basically doesn't work. It tastes like dreck.

    Anyway.
