Post Ironman Weight Gain

OK, so Ironman is now a full 3 month behind me and I am now a full 15 pounds heavier. Ugh...

Made a visit to UofL last week and had a hydro-static body composition test done. Looks like I have a total of about 25 pounds of fat that could be lost and get me down to 12% body fat. My birthday is in March so I am hoping to be able to drop about 5 lbs a week of squishy stuff and gain about 5 pounds of lean tissue. So 180 pounds on my Birthday!

    I gained 5 lbs post IM Louisville in two weeks. Haven't put a pound on since. I'm fairly strict with my eating habits so I have been holding steady. My new out-season training plan has begun to ramp up so I fully expect to drop those 5 pounds plus 20 more before my first race in April.

    We can lose 25!

    Wow - im in the same club - did my first IM in Oct at 180 - put almost 15 lbs on since then.
    The first 4 weeks after the race I did almost nothing - a few small runs that was it.
    Nov & Dec was pretty much the same - but my appetite did not change.
    Its one thing when you are doing 5-6 hr bike rides and 10 mile runs in a day - but when you just sit on your *kitten* - you cant pack away the food and expect to maintain the same weight.
    I just got my *kitten* back in gear to get down to my goal weight. Hope be 175 by my first race in June this year - Raleigh HIM, also doing Augusta this year w/ a few other smaller races.

    Think it's par for the course for non-elite athletes to pack on a few pounds after a big endurance event. Most of us take time off from training and don't really taper our appetites.

    Enjoy your time off, don't stress too much about weight gain. Once you are back into training the weight gain won't last long.

    Absolutely the same here. It seems 15lbs is the magic guaranteed weight gain unless you get RIGHT back into training. I raced Challenge Roth last July, kept it up for a half in August but then relaxed ito a life of sloth till January apart from swin training. The reward for my indolence...20lbs gained. I'm now back on track and training again (sprints only this year due to time pressures) and with MFP I've started to see good results, well, as much as you can 1 week in. Just joined this group, looks like some interesting posts.
  • This is one reason I track intake all the time, to avoid mishaps like this :p
