Hey vegan body builders,
I've been on and off the vegan wagon for the last year or so thanks to the help of all the famous documentaries. I seem to back slide becaue it's hard, I buy into the idea that you have to consume lots of animal protein to build muscle, I just let myself forget, and because I don't know anyone else who is a vegan. Last night I watched Vegucated and decided I really need to take this seriously and surround myself with people who are like minded to succeed. My husband agrees with this way of eating too and has been more committed than I have, which is really nice.
I'm excited to have found a vegan body building group, because I lift weights as well. If you are a female vegan who lifts weights, I would love to connect.

I have made many Favourite vegetarian meals over the last 20 years. I have gone months or weeks at a time without eating meat. My family doesn't support this and I usually end up eating meat when with family which is may of the time. I saw the same documentary yesterday and other than some dairy products that I should use up I can't imagine consuming animal products again. I already knew the facts but the documentary made me unable yo put my head in the sand anymore. I know it is drastic to change so suddenly so I went out and bought nutritional yeast and tofu cheese. I'm having wild rice and lentil soup for dinner. So I'm a newb! Last time I stopped eating meat my mother made sure that there was a lentil or tofu something when we had dinner at her place ( with some grumbling). I'm thinking I can go for Christmas dinner and eat everything except the turkey, there are always yummy meatless side dishes. It really doesn't have to be a big deal this time! I will just keep an eye on my protein amounts with help from mfp. Glad to find this group:)0

Hello ladies!! I'm not a body builder but I have become very health/fitness conscious. Each week, I do Zumba and strength training (w/ weights) twice a week back to back at the gym and then another visit or two for other activities. I've been a vegan for eight years running now (and a few as a vegetarian before that).
I've never been protein deficient and get yearly blood tests to make sure everything is in check. Since I started taking vegan health even more seriously and tracking my protein here, I find that I actually eat at or beyond the recommended intake of protein. Someone my age/height/weight should have about 54g/day and I average 50-80g easily without trying. I've recently adjusted my diet breakdown to a 40-30-30 so now it suggests 94g/day. I've been checking in at 80-100g on my workout days so it's working out just fine0
