I started having some pain in my left shin on Saturday I have new shoes but it hurt pretty good, even with ice and NSAIDs.
For week #2 I laid some more padding down on the carpet (it's just carpet on tile, no padding before what I added) and tried it barefoot. I don't know if it was the extra padding or being barefoot but I was more confident in my jumps and I'm really feeling the bun in my calves now.
Food for thought if you are having pain, try more padding and/or losing the shoes.

I do the workouts on my yoga mat, with thick socks on . It definitely feels much more comfortable without any shoes on!0

people do it without shoes... thier called crazy lol
If you were having shin pain i wouldn't think taking off my shoes would improve that, but i guess you have to go by what your body is telling you.
Also would think your shoes would ultimately be more cushion then whatever mat you put down but idk.
I would think it would be quite a shock to your feet, ankles and knees doing insanity barefoot, especially if your not used to exercising that way, but whatever is honestly most comfortable.
I did insanity with a group when i first started, and there was a girl who was doing it barefoot. Two weeks later she was posting about a stress fracture in her foot. good luck with that.0 -

Makes me wonder if she was landing with soft knees or not. I know that I do, I squat, jump and land back in the squat.0
