Hey everyone
I think its necessary that we put some kedusha on myfitnesspal ! If anyone hears a word of Torah that they want to share, whether its about health, the parsha, or a nice idea they heard...
please share!!!
i'll start with something.. hmm..
I heard this idea from Rav Twertsky. We are supposed to serve Hashem with happiness right? But what does that mean? we can't be happy every second of our day. Constantly, we have mood swings.. bad days and good days. Serving Hashem with Happiness doesn't mean having a big smile on your face. It means doing what your supposed to be doing, when your supposed to be doing it, and with all of your effort!! This applies to every aspect of our life. For example, if you are doing chessed, you should be focused on that chessed 100% and not worrying about how you went over in your food diary today lol.To relate to fitness, in order to serve Hashem we need to have constant energy, emotional stability, and confidence. Without proper health we are laxing in our potential to serve Hashem! Why? Because without energy... how can we run around after our kids and to shul! Without emotional stability and confidence- how can we show Hashem love by truly doing mitzvoth with enthusiasm if we can't even love ourselves. Feeling good and being healthy is just another avodah that is going to get us closer to Hashem- so we should all have this in mind when we want to throw it all away!! If not for yourself, do it for klal yisroel!

Pssssssssshhhhhhhhhh. Shkoyach.
Alright, I'm going to give it a go.
The Ramchal in Derech Hashem says that everyone has a body and a soul, and that both of these are important for fulfilling our purpose in life, which is to become spiritually closer to Hashem by the time we die. The soul is completely pure and incorruptible. Effectively, every single one of us has worth, no matter what we do or how it seems to us.
So, why do we need a body when we already have souls? If we only had a soul, it would be no challenge to be righteous. We would be like the angels. However, humans are supposed to earn their good qualities. If we want to get closer to Hashem, we need something to counterbalance our souls. To use a fitness metaphor, our bodies are the weights that our souls use to become stronger.
Just as we need to devote time to our spiritual development, we also need to devote time to living a healthy lifestyle. Our bodies are a gift from Hashem to help us grow as people, and we need to take care of our bodies in order to use them to their best purpose.
Edit: Any errors are mine, and not the Ramchal's. Oh, and we should all merit the coming of moshiach.0 -
That was beautiful!!! AMEN!!!
I LOVE Derech Hashem
I was just listening to a shiur by Shira Smiles...
When you are lost in life, ask yourself where are you searching for- whats your goal? if you recognize what your goal is then when you do something that interfears with your goal, you know right away you need to get back on track.
The kortsker rebbe says when yosef is looking for his brothers, a man asked him, Leimore, saying, what are you searching for? Why did the ish need to use the terminology Leomor? Isn't it repetitive? The man, or malach (angel), was trying to teach us to question ourselves. The rebe says when you are lost in life, question yourself... mah tevakesh?, ask yourself where are you going, what are you searching for- whats your goal?
If you know your goal is to be an eved hashem, when you get a situation that gets in your way that’s tailor made for you, just think it’s going to just be a challenge to help me be the best eved hashem I can be. Hashem is giving you a gift, don’t ignore the challenges, we don’t want a pain free life- we want to grow in the best way possible! Mah Tevakesh? What are we searching for? Have I gone astray?
Regarding our fitness goals, sometimes we are gonna slip up and fall. Sometimes we are gonna pig out and sometimes we are not gonna be proud of ourselves... but during 30 day shred Jillian Michales always says "this is going to change you in every aspect of your life! Not just fitness!" When we overcome a challenge or struggle- we don't just overcome that challenge... something changes in us. We go through a change as a person, it gives us endurance emotionally as well physically.
We should all be zoche to get through our challenges, physical and spiritual, and learn from them and always keep in mind the end goal!0
