I just increased my calories today and want to make sure I'm doing this correctly. Before you ask if I checked out the other postings and/or stickys...the answer is yes. Here is what I calculated today...
As of 12/16/12
TDEE = 1790
BMR = 1491
Cut Value = 1521 which is 1790 - 15% = 1521 (eat 1521 calories daily & don't eat below BMR 1491)
On Workout days: 1521 - 1491 = 30 so if I burn more than 30 calories eat back calories to equal the BMR 1491. Enter exercise in MFP
So because I can only exercise like 30 minutes a week, the above numbers is what I calculated. I care for my 2 year old grandson who is a hospice patient and the majority of my time is devoted to him and making him comfortable. When I do workout I do 30 minutes of resistance band workout via DVD.
Can someone let me know if I have a decent understanding on determining my TDEE and daily calorie consumption? Also, when do I need to recalculate?
Thanks to all who respond! :flowerforyou:

Just from your numbers it appears you chose a sedentary activity or 1.2 factor. 1491 x 1.2 = 1789.2. You sound more active than that. Try 1.375 which is lightly active. That would put your TDEE at 1491 x 1.375 = 2050.13. A 15% cut would give you a net TDEE of 1742.
I am by no means an expert, but those are the numbers and based upon what you describe I think you could eat 1742 with your activity.0 -
I agree with Gap.
And don't worry about trying to calculate burned calories from resistance band, that is resistance training that'll be excellent for you even if it doesn't burn a lot while you do it.
Just eat the deficit amount daily. Increase daily activity, since that's what is really burning the majority of fat.0 -
I concur with the above and you are an AMAZING grandparent caring for your grandson in hospice! My heart goes out to you and your family :flowerforyou:0

Why thank you very much! OK, I can agree with you because I thought about it further about my actual activities and yes, I do more moving than I think. I'm constantly lefting my grandson, lots of running up and down the stairs, etc. OK...I will definitely go the next level up in the activity level. You don't know how much this means to me....thank you very much! :smooched:0

Thank you...my grandson is my heart. I promise I will recaluate my numbers using the next activity level.
