Challenge friends:

Our 21st wedding anniversary is December 21st. We are spending the weekend away at a hotel and have agreed to no phone, no t.v. and no computer for two days. We will get back home Sunday afternoon and our family festivities will be on Monday and Tuesday (my birthday). I really want to relax and enjoy myself this weekend (eat, drink and be merry), but I don't want that to turn into a week long food fest. I want to be back in control and on track on Sunday evening.

Can you give me some ideas/thoughts about how I can enjoy myself but not throw out all of the good work I have done so far in December? For those of you who plan "cheat days" how do you know it will only last a day? I plan to print out your suggestions and take them with me, so think for a minute and share your wisdom.

hmm, maybe go for a fruity desert and salade before instead of soup if you want a three course meal?
Take your husband out for a walk, because no need to sit inside, when using no technical devices!
All small bits will help and if it is an overeating weekend, so be it! But put on a note, that you WILL without excuses come back here sunday and post a note that whatever happened it was a weekend you enjoyed, because you spend real good quality time with the one who matters most in your life!

    See, nothing to worry about!

jbnl1991: I think you are going to be so conscious of the fact of how hard you have been working at this and how you don't want to slip back into old habits that....that alone is going to help you not over do......and you will be happy and ready on Sunday or Monday....pleased with yourself.......be able to say, "I've got this!"

spacecurly: thank you for being there for jbnl1991!!!!

You didn't mention if this hotel is in a city, in the country, the woods... Is it in your same city or somewhere new? Go explore wherever you are. Walk around and notice the surroundings. Make mini-challenges for yourself: lunge up and down the hallway to your hotel room. Do x# squats before you sit (or jump into) bed. Do some jumping jacks before you take a bath/shower.

As for food- I think spacecurly had great ideas: eat fruit based desserts. If you want a soup instead of a salad, get a broth-based one, not a creamy soup. If you're eating a steak, get a lean cut, instead of a (delicious) fatty one. Or better yet- eat some fish. Enjoy yourself- just think remember that doing little things can add up to a big change :)

    Mostly- have fun!

lik_11 - Our hotel is in an old downtown. Everything we need/want is within walking distance. Your post made me think of taking the stairs to our room instead of the elevator - I will do that. It also has a gym so I will try that if the weather is cold and windy. I seem to forget that I don't need a t.v. or a piece of exercise equipment to work out. I just need my body and a little bit of room.

Thank you all for the hints. I will be checking in Sunday afternoon to get back on track and let you know how I did.

Everyone had great ideas! I was just going to add that you could set a alarm on your phone to go off with a message saying something like......Had a great time with hubby and now it's time to get back to taking care of me. Or something like that.lol.

    Happy Anniversary too!

Had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary. We walked an hour on Friday and Saturday. Except for the first trip to our room, we took the stairs up and down instead of the elevator. I chose fish and rice for my entree Friday night and just had one bite of cheesecake for dessert. I also chose two poached eggs and fruit salad for breakfast both days. My only splurge was a veggie pizza and two beers Saturday night and too many Godiva chocolate truffles yesterday. I made the mistake of stepping on the scale this morning and even though I know the alcohol and wheat has caused me to retain water, I was still a little bummed at the number on the scale. My plan today is to drink tons of water and eat fruit and vegetables and work out!

So, all in all, I think I did great. I feel like my mind is make in the right place today to get back on track.

jbnl1991: Very good!! You were very conscious of the fact of the progess you have made and did not want to regress too much! Yes, you probably would have been better off not to have stepped on the scales. I usually wait a couple of days anyway. That awful number can even set you back! A pat on the back for you!

Sounds like a lovely weekend spend with lots of quality time!
You have a good plan in place and you get back to logging right away, so, this will work out just fine!
