It's great that everyone is sticking with the program over the holidays!

Meredith, I feel the same way. I have no time-agenda for finishing this program. My goal is to be able to run 5K and if it takes me longer, so be it.

I finished Week 6 yesterday. Looks like it stays rather heavy-duty from now one with only longer runs. Oy!

Happy New Year everyone! How is everyone doing with the program?

I finished W7D2 this morning and instead of doing the cool down walk I finished running until time ran out. Talk about a non-scale victory! 30 minutes solid.... we got this!!!

    Have a happy Wednesday everyone!!!

I found the straight out runs easier than the intervals. Get my music going and get my body going and just run. Nothing to think about except I can actually do this! What an awesome feeling.

Happy 2013 everyone. Here's to a year full of our successes.

Good job! I did my W7D1 run on New Year's Day morning while it was raining lightly. Ran 5k at a slower pace than usual .Got some pain bugging me between my ankle and calf. Right on the side of the shin bone. I think I may rest a few days before running again.

    ^^This^^
I get this all the time on my left leg. It is down the inner side of my leg. It sounds almost the exact spot you are describing. Doing a lot of self diagnosisi, I think this is the soleus muscle.

I think you are right. Mine is on the inside right leg. The left side feels fine. My entire right leg is cursed! Sprained a ligament in my knee earlier this year (with a huge POP), dealt with a lot of arch pain prior to starting running (but not now), and frequently deal with sciatic nerve pain down the leg.

Last week I started adding in some hills to my runs. That is probably what brought on the pain, along with increasing distance. Yesterday's run was a little painful and I should have stopped, but I thought if I slowed down and stayed on the flat areas I would be OK. But it hurt the rest of the day. Today feels better and I will keep resting at least until the weekend.

Wow all~ Brand new to this group, first saw this thread and then joined just so I can reply. My W5D3 is tomorrow, and I was totally freakin' out, but all of your posts are so inspiring. I can't pretend I'm looking forward to it, I'm scared... but I'm comforted by all your accomplishments. Rock on!!!

You can do it! You'll be surprised how quick it goes and after it's done you'll feel a huge sense of accomplishment. As you move on to week 6 and beyond it feels easier (at least it did for me).

I did it I did it I did it!!!! Okay, so the first two minutes or so I thought "I've SO got this." The last 18 minutes or so I couldn't even think, I sucked wind, and I was in a mental war of epic proportions. BUT... I did it! WHEW.... onward :)

I'm hoping the longer runs will be okay because I'm also finding the longer running stretches preferable to stopping and starting. Whenever I start one of the longer stretches I think "Oh, if I'm really tired I'll walk halfway through," but by the time I get to that point I've totally hit my stride. It's just easier to keep going.

Funny that you should mention that, but I do agree totally. I'm no longer doing intervals (finished W7 this morning), so it's pretty much solid running. I find that by the time I start until the haflway point, I'm constantly thinking to myself, I don't think I can do it, I'm too tired, etc.. but once I get to the halfway point, it's like I get a second wind or something.

I'm also finding that I still feel good enough to keep on trucking even after the time ends. I may try that on my next run on Sunday just to see how far I can go. I don't want to overdo it however so I guess I will just wait and see how that run feels and go from there!

Be careful. I started pushing each run too early in the program and now have some pain in my inner lower tibia area. I skipped my W7D2 run and will try tomorrow morning and see how I feel. I hope it's not a stress fracture with my first coming up in 2 weeks.

Hmm, we seem to always thinking the same thought. The side calf muscle ache I've got keeps freaking me out. It was not happy with me in Zumba today. Usually when I run, it aches for the first few minutes, but after I am all warmed up and going, it stops aching .... until I stop and start to stretch and it shows me it extreme displeasure. I take ibuprofen and ice it in the evenings when I get home from work.

If it stops hurting after warmup you got some muscle issue going on. Probably overworked the calf. My calves need tons of stretching. I got some compression sleeves which helped a lot. Now I am working on strengthening my shins. I ran 5k today and just had some dull pain in my lower leg. It is much better than my last run on New Year's Day. I will keep running a slower pace until my race.

I just got back from W5D3!!!! I have been avoiding it for weeks, and I accidentally selected it on my Garmin. Once I realized that I was way past 8 minutes, I said I would just go as far as I could. Next thing I knew, I was finished! I was able to maintain an 11 min/mile pace too. I feel ecstatic!!! Congrats to everyone who conquered this one!!!

docsharon: Everyone has their own pace, but your pace is faster than mine. On my 'mill, I run 4 mph for the runs and 3 mph for the walks.

Just had to hop on and post to my friends here....Huge, huge deal for me this morning! I ran 2 miles straight! My pace is improving too. 16:11 the first mile and 16:59 the second. Below 17 minutes on both!

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!

Thanks guys!!! I felt like I was on top of the world yesterday! These small victories are piling up! How's everyones runs been going?

Actually I'm probably the only person in South Louisiana who isn't a fan of King cake! I know, crazy right? Now if someone stuck a piece right in front of me I'd nibble on it but I don't go out of my way to eat it. All that sugar... blah. If it was cobbler or ice cream, all bets would be off then! ;)

Way to go, everyone who's conquering the dreaded W5D3! That's a real milestone!

Geauxgirl, you're doing great! A 2-mile run is a feat to remember.

I'm doing Week 8 and in the running session I cover about 2.8Km (1.75 miles). I haven't tried pushing it further than the program says, though. I've increased the treadmill speed to 6.1Km/hr (still slow but a pace that I can maintain and talk at the same time).
I won't be running 5K at the end of the 9-week program but plan on continuing and adding time (and speed, as I can) until I can run 5K without stopping. I'm guessing that will be in week 11-13 sometime. When I can run the 5K stretch, I'll start working on my speed a bit more. Right now, the goal is to make the distance.

Thats really what I'm planning to do as well. Just start increasing minutes until I can actually hit the 5K distance. Once, I can do that consistantly then I'll work on time. And once I get that done, then I'll work my way into longer than 5Ks. But baby steps at first!

How has everyone been doing with their runs? Hope you all are having a great new year so far!

I just finished W9D2 today. I'm looking forward to "graduating"! :) Hope you are all doing well!
