So sorry to hear this (and sorry didn't see it when I wrote my last post - forget what I asked, not worthy of spending any brain power!!)0
-
Can't locate kronenbourg - but found Leffe - will it count
More than fine Karan...
and don't worry - they're doing all they can - if they sent me home for a few hours, they must be happier about him now than when they called me in this morning.0 -

Thanks TBY,
I think I speak for everyone participating in this thread, that you are the glue between each of these challenges. This is a thoroughly enjoyable and addictive challenge. I really enjoyed being out yesterday, so much that I have one of the first signs of summer to show you all tonight.
Drum roll please....

Tan lines!!!
The picture doesn't do the tan lines much justice, but they do look better in the flesh. Might get the razor out one of these days, if I become any more obsessed.0 -
(Hope you don't mind!!)0 -
LMAO. I don't mind, but you aimed a bit too high. You have to look at it through Rose tinted specs. :bigsmile:0

Weather this weekend is likely to be the warmest yet. :glasses:
Hoping for a nice warm ride, followed by Amstels in the back garden or the local Beer garden :drinker:0 -

That's fine mate - i've added it back into the competition thread for the sake of completeness, added in the 2 bonuses to the spreadsheet, and you now stand on 49 points overall - not enough to change the positions in the leaderboard, so I'll not re-publish, but the points are there ready for Sunday0 -
Okay - Amstel Bonuses...
Dutch Beer - Amstel do sponsor the race, so it's kind of a given. Anything Dutch will do - it's a tough week ahead!
Stroopwaffels - extra kudos (though no extra points) if they're on a proper "Koffie verkeerd" (or "Wrong Coffee" - order a Cafe Latte with a false passport  )
Patat / Vlaamse Friet - yep chips and mayo. It was always coming at some point
or, as an alternative, some form of Cheese Related Action - Edam/Gouda/Limburger or other cheese of Dutch Origin.
I'd love to do a special bonus for any route that manages to cross over itself twice AND climbs the same 6% or steeper hill 3 times or more - it doesn't need to be a LONG hill - 50metres will do, but it does have to be steeeep... Problem is, I don't really know how we can easily document it....0 -

If you go for total elevation gain rather than a specific hill it should be easily documented shouldn’t it? That way if someone finds their hill they can do it 3 or 4 times or even more if they like to punish themselves.0 -
Yeah - but the whole convoluted route with loops and repeats on certain hills just fitted in to the theme of this particular ride. Anything based on total elevation gain just puts anyone who lives in undulating or flat areas at a massive disadvantage to someone who lives at the foot of a mountain for example...0

(chips and mayo on the other hand  )0 -
:grumble: looking like rain all day Sunday here :sick:0
-
The drinks will be easy (not a Amstel though!)
Stroopwaffels... hmm... hmm... need further research...
Forecast is a few showers :grumble:
"Cross over itself twice AND climbs the same 6% or steeper hill 3 times or more" - does it mean A to B, B to A, then again A to B, B to A, and which includes at least 3 climbs of >6%?
Am I too serious???0 -
I've found a climb close to home that is short at 9%. I have three different approaches to it, so I think that should count. Just need to find time in my busy Sunday schedule to do it now.
Stroopwaffels
Chips and mayo :noway: I'm strictly a brown sauce and vinegar man myself.0 -

Great! :noway: :grumble:0 -
Hmmm...dutch beer, I don't have any of those in the "cellar" guess I need to do a bit of shopping. Fries and mayo? It's a guilty pleasure. I know I can come up at least one 6% or greater climb that I could do multiple times, but do I want to? :ohwell:
Too bad the challenge is Sunday, the local shop has a ride tomorrow that I'm considering joining but don't want to burn the legs out too quick considering the week ahead. Time will tell.
Oh right, the weather is supposed to be 60's clear skies...but with winds 16-26mph, gusting to 40mph. Going to have to plan very carefully (or find a peleton).0 -
dutch beer should be easy to source anywhere - Heineken anyone ??
stroopwaffels - lidl sell them, as "Caramel Wafers" - they're blimin lovely, I bought a pack this morning, and frankly, I weakened...
I can't come up with a simple way of verificaton for the convoluted route and hill repeats - and seeing as we've another ride mid-week (Fleche Wallone on Wednesday) - I'm going to knock that bonus off I'm afraid. It's an awful lot of work wading through everyones routes, probably having to download 'em, and run them through a profile program I've got on the machine.
Sorry folks, but with all the other stuff I have on my mind at the moment, I don't think I'm up to that - lets just have a ride without interruptions this week, shall we - hopefully I'll get to ride myself...0 -
I am good with this.
Now will continue on the investigation/sourcing of the stroopwaffels:glasses:0 -
that fine by me. we dont need to make this a full time job for you.
looks like rain for me too.:frown:0 -

 I good with that!0 -
Cheers People - glad you all understand. I have to say, I'm hoping for the weather to pick up a bit, as Im kind of looking forward to a long peaceful ride on the bike, with nobody ringing me and fussing over me, and nobody turning up "for a chat" or asking me around for "tea and sympathy". I've spoken to a few key people, told them that I'm booking tomorrow for some "me time", and that I'll be out on the bike, with the phone on "direct to answering machine", but if I need them, I'll be able to call them-
I've also got offers for at least 3 "sunday dinners" I can call for, so I'd better make it a decent ride and get some kCals in the bank...
Alternatively, I could just make my own when I come back from the pub
Anyway - I'll go open the submissions thread now...0 -
Weather's Driech here - intermitent showers, 10mph winds, gusting 20+ but at least it's warmer than recently. Off I go...0

Today, the 199.5 km event starts in Charleroi and heads east to Huy, where the riders do three laps of a tough circuit including the steep Mur de Huy (The wall of Huy) climb, with several sections steeper than 15% and up to 26% on one section. The finish is at the top of the Mur after the third ascent.0

So, I guess you're proposing some form of climb related bonus for the Fleche Wallone Challenge on Wednesday :laugh:0 -
Results updated in the entries thread. Give me a PM if I've missed something0

Missed the Sunday ride due to baseball season having started last Tuesday (for me), but this dreadful "mist/drizzle" garbage we had all day probably would have deterred me anyway
I probably wouldn't have let a proper rain stop me, but this stuff was like, as my husband so aptly put it, "like being constantly sneezed on". BLECH.
Glad to hear there's a Wednesday ride, forecast is mostly sunny and 70 degrees - delightful! Won't be a huge ride for me since it will have to be after work hours, but I'll make it a decent 1.5 hours at least.
Funny the mentions of stroopwafel the past couple of days - I had some stroopwafel a couple weeks ago but didn't get my post and pics uploaded in timeHope there's another opportunity for stroopwafel points, any excuse to eat more

I'm keeping spot prizes simple this ride, as there's not really been any chance for anyone to pre-prepare or shop for wierd and wonderful strange exotic foodstuffs....
So... here we go!
Snacks - Chocolate
Recovery Drink - Any Belgian beer
Ride Photo Bonus - in-keeping with the name La Flèche Wallonne (the Walloon Arrow) - a photo of ANYTHING archery related (a chance to be creative) (think Pub Signs, Road Names - the more creative the better!)
Riding Bonus 1pt per 500m of climbing, up to a maximum of 3pts for 1500m or above.
Thread now open for early riders.0
