How are you logging your workout?

I am using circuit training even though MFP seems to estimate on the higher side.

  • I have been using circuit training as well. I read some previous posts on MFP and they suggest to invest in a heart rate monitor for more precise calorie burning numbers. I don't know if I will get one or not; guess it will depend if I find one on sale. (Shopping for good deals is a hobby of mine!) :smile:

    I just got a fit bit for my mother for Christmas and decided to get myself one too. Im so confused as to how it works, more like a pedometer really. I shoulda got a HRM .

    I got a Polar FT4 HRM (the pink one) and I love it! I have never had one before and was on the fence about the chest strap, but I'm too busy working out I don't even notice it. Plus I needed to get something to track my calories burned during my workout. I would recommend it!

    Somebody please tell me what is MFP! I am so new to this group and this kind of activities.
    By the way, I did slim in 6 , yesterday. Today i feel sour! So, I went easy. Just did it for 30 minutes. and 25 minutes on Elliptical. Then I cleaned all the house like crazy for almost 2 hours! :)

    Honestly I'm not sure. I just create an exercise and add in the time and calories burned just based on my HRM. How else do you estimate it based on MFP? (I'm kinda new to this)
  • I logged it for today as low impact aerobics. Do you think that is ok or is there a more accurate way to measure? I don't have a heart rate monitor. Thanks for any help you can offer!
  • Karen, I have both a HRM and a FitBit. The HRM will probably be more accurate as far as the calories you've burned doing a certain activity, but the FitBit does so much more. I don't use my HRM any more... just too much hassle to put on the strap and all that. I go in and look to see how many calories FitBit says I've burned, and I adjust it if necessary (for example, if you're doing something low-impact, or strength training, it may underestimate your calories because you're not moving much).

    I haven't yet started Slim in 6 (need to get it ordered!), but I would guess that low impact aerobics would be closer than circuit training. Neither one is really accurate for all types of activity, of course. I would check what FitBit says (or HRM for those who have one) and then compare it with what MFP has for each of those categories. I always err on the low side just to be safe.
