How have you tried to get off the plateau?

I have done the 70-80 carbs a day regime. I saw a quick weight loss, but was so crabby and tired that I stopped working out.
I've also fasted to recalibrate my appetite after a couple of days of over-eating. I travel alot and it's easy to eat unconsciously when doing business lunches and dinners. I do well fasting for a day, and it does help me to overcome my immediate eating sins, but not really to bust out of the plateau.
I have a friend who went to one of the centers that analyzes your metabolism and designs a food program for you. She lost 30 pounds really fast. Has anyone else tried that?
What's your experience?

I've not tried analysing metabolism but I may need to go there. I am now going to embark upon "cycling calories" since I have not changed on the scales for at least 35 days despite eating no more than 1400 calories. I have averaged over 1700 for the past 7 days to try to raise my metabolism and done a lot more walking. Now I am going to try 1700 one day, 1400 the next.0
