Ok so I was looking at some info on the trail and found....
* that a true hike on the trail costs about $3000.00 which equals $1.50 per mile. so if u put $1.50 in a jar for every mile u walked u would end up with $3000
* to hike the entire trail it would take u 5-7 months
* it extends from Springer Mountain, Georgia, to Mount Katahdin, Maine,
* if u start hiking in the spring it's best to start in Georgia and head north and the majority of the finishers start this way.
* highest point Clingmans Dome, 6,643 ft (2,025 m)
* lowest point Bear Mountain State Park, 124 ft (38 m)

I was about to ask what happens if you start in the autumn. And then I realized that was a dumb question. So, um, how else do people hike the trail?0

from what I have been reading there are several types of hikers.
1) "purist" the type that never leaves the main trail
2) "blue-blazer uses side trails to cut off miles from the trail
3) "yellow-blazer which uses hitchhiking to complete their trail hike
I also just found a site that shows how many miles of the trail r supposed to be in each state. now we can see where we r depending on the end u start from. lol
Georgia - 75 Miles
Tennessee-North Carolina - 371 Miles
Virginia - 544 Miles
West Virginia - 2 Miles
Maryland - 41 Miles
Pennsylvania - 232 Miles
New Jersey - 74 Miles

Is there a name for someone who does it in chunks? I'd like to do the whole thing, but wouldn't be able to do it one go as I run my own business.,0
