DHEA supplementation

I had an Endo appt today with my Integrative Therapy doctor. When reviewing my labs, she noticed that my labs from last August had a less than ideal DHEA level of 118. She wants my DHEA to be up to at least 135 to make me feel my absolute best. The labs were taken before I had my Armour prescription, and before I had started supplementing with selenium and zinc. I've been doing some online research about DHEA and I've got to admit, I'm a bit intimidated because it seems that with too much, my present acne could possibly become worse. My progesterone, estrogen, androgen and testosterone have been tested and they're all normal.

Does anybody else take DHEA? What is your experience with it? Did it help you lose any additional weight or give you insomnia, acne, oily hair and skin? Or did it help you feel better?

Current Thyroid Medications and supplements:
Armour 60 mg
Selenium 200mg - 2x a day
Zinc - 50 mg once a day
Vitamin D 5000 mg once a day

Current supplements for my skin and hormones:
Evening Primrose Oil 1300 mg - 4 per day
Vitex
Burdock Root
Milk Thistle

Bump! Very interested in the response. Thanks for asking the question.
  • I wish I could offer some help. I added DHEA to my supplements after reading something somewhere about it, but then quickly stopped taking it when I read how dangerous it could be!

What exactly is she concerned with on the "low" DHEA? I'd want to know what she's intending to address, specifically, before adding anything in.

Do you mean 5000 IUI of Vit D...?

Where are your thyroid levels at? (free T3 and free T4)

I've been taking a pretty low dose (25mg) for a couple months now, haven't noticed any huge improvements but I haven't had trouble with acne or other side effects either. Thinking about increasing the dose soon.
