So does anyone else supplement with vitamin D3? I've been adding it to my diet, and my weight is finally starting to budge. Hasw anyone else had stalled weight loss that was helped after vitamin D supplementation?

Have not tried it, but I'm in a slow phase right now trying different exercises and foods to jumpstart my loss again. In a bit of a stall right now. Need to likey increase Vitamin D anyway. So I will try it. Find it tough to work in the other supplements due to restrictions of taking the synthroid (no D/Calcium with in 4 hours of the synthroid).

I take 4000 IUI daily, and know people that take up to 10k IUI daily. Have you had yours tested? The optimal levels for those with thyroid issues is 60-80.

Vit D is required for T3 to act on your cells, so being deficient can have the same impact as being hypothyroid.

Do not take any supplements blindly. Have a blood profile done. Vitamins & minerals can hurt you.

Vitamin D has side effects that include permanent liver and kidney damage. It can also cause kidney stones & affect thyroid function.

When I am prescribed anything I do two things. I google "prescription X" benefits, then I google "prescription X" side effects. Then if I find something that concerns me, I get back with my doc. (I have headed off a few problems by doing this)

It doesn't actually directly impact thyroid function - it impacts the ability of one thyroid hormone to be able to act on your cells. And it's actually a DEFICIT of Vit D that has the main (negative) impact.

I do agree, as I mentioned above, that you should get your levels tested.
  • I know, I should add that to my tests for my next visit. I'm in Wisconsin and it's so cold right now, I hardly leave the house, so I know I'm not getting it through the sun. Right now, I'm taking 5000IU (and a multi, selenium, krill oill, and iron) At my last visit, I told them the vitamins I was taking, but they don't really seem to take notice.

I drive two hours to my internal medicine doctor who has helped me feel better. My local doctor told me I had a goiter for years but only ever tested my TSH which was normal. One year she decided to check my T4 and found I was hypothyroid. By that time I was over 300 pounds. I now am losing weight and feel better than I have in years. My new doctor monitors my vit D3 levels and for the winter has me on 10k. I also take a multi and DHEA. He says I may be able to go back to the 5K I was on before in the summer when I am outdoors more but in the winter I am indoors without windows at work:(

I have Hashimotos and when I have my bloodwork every six months, vitamin D and B12 are always included as they can be low with Hashimotos and mine was in the past. I take 2000 IU of Vitamin D-3 per day. I am also on Armour.

Ugh, it makes me so frustrated when they only test TSH, and when they just tell you "it's normal". Since most doctors use outdated ranges this leaves a lot of hypo people feeling like they are crazy!

Please make sure your doctor also tests your free T3, especially if you are on a T4-only med like Synthroid or Levothyroxine.
