Supplements

I've read a lot in the "Paleosphere" about supplementing magnesium and/or vitamin D. Does anyone supplement either of these?

If so, have you noticed any benefits?

I take a Multivitamin and 10,000IUs of Vitamin D3 every day. My doc has me on that dose because my D3 levels were WAY low. If you are unsure, you can have a blood test to see where your levels are at - if you are in a sunny clime and you are outdoors a lot, they might not be bad. Myself, I burn like WHOA so I am super careful about being in the sun without sunscreen of at least SPF 50. (That blocks the Vit D too, I believe)

I feel better when I'm on the Vit D3. I feel as if I have more energy and I'm generally "perkier". Others may not have had the same experience. For me, it is a good thing.

I have to suppliment with Vit D - my levels were soooo low the last go round of blood tests I had.

A lot of Vitamin D you get from the sun...being a fair skinned person I slather on the sunscreen so not to get burnt = lower chances of getting Vit D into my system.
  • I supplement with vit d,probiotics, digestive enzymes(this has been essential with all of the meat),vitamin e with evening primrose and zinc.
  • This is a good site to see which foods are best:
http://whfoods.org/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=75 for magnesium and http://whfoods.org/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=110 for vitamin D. I'm trying to eat more salmon for that one.

    I sometimes take a multi-vitamin. If I remember :P

we're looking to start a family so I take a vitamin with lots of folate and vitamin C in it, but otherwise I usually never remember to, I'm getting so much more nutrients now that I am Primal and I feel so awesome about what I eat everyday! I'm proud to log my foods and love it when the clerks at the grocery store comment on how healthy my cart is haha! Oh, I also do vitamin D in the winter as needed (I live in MT and it stays pretty cloudy here in the winter months and it starts effecting my mood), if I get cranky or depressed I make sure I take some extra D.

Thanks for the links. Very useful site. I'd prefer to eat foods with the nutrients I need rather than taking a pill.
